The commander of the Seventh Division of the Army, Major General Juvenal Díaz, commented on alias' Zapuca ': “This bandit is syndicated of being an explosivist, he is demobilized from the former FARC and is the alleged author of the minefield where five soldiers were killed south of Puerto Libertador, in the village of La Rica... In this event, five soldiers of Ground Operations Battalion No. 23 were killed and eight more were injured by explosive device detonation. Additionally, he would have participated in the criminal action directed at members of the National Police, which took place on February 10, 2022, in this same municipality,” the authority said.

According to the authorities at the time of the capture, 'Zapuca' was providing training to members of the organized criminal structure. “Together with this subject, three alleged members of this illegal group were captured. At the time of his capture, alias' Zapuca 'was issuing explosives instruction to Gulf Clan personnel, with the purpose of being sent to integrate the armed component,” said the Major General.

As part of the operation deployed by the authorities, 14 electric detonators, three meters of detonating cord and other instruments for manufacturing and detonation, four pounds of explosives, five cell phones, two communication radios and a pistol were seized.

Major General Juvenal Díaz said: “Those captured will be prosecuted for the crimes of manufacturing, trafficking, carrying or possession of firearms, accessories, parts or ammunition and the manufacture, trafficking and carrying of weapons, ammunition for restricted use, of the exclusive use of the armed forces or explosives”.

According to the authorities, thanks to the materialization of this result, it is possible to prevent the terrorist actions that the Gulf Clan would be planning to carry out against the Public Forces in the rural area of the municipalities of Planeta Rica, Montelíbano, Puerto Libertador and San José de Uré, in the department of Córdoba.

The operation was led by the 33rd Infantry Battalion 'Battle of Junín', the Criminal Investigation and Interpol Directorate of the National Police and the Attorney General's Office. On March 22, a judge will define whether to send the four captured to a prison precinct as requested by the Prosecutor's Office.
