Yo Soy, the most successful music imitation contest on Peruvian television, premiered on April 9, 2012 on the Latina Televisión signal. Since then, the program has had several winners, members of the jury and presenters. However, the talent of the contestants has always remained up to the mark.
This 2022, the television space turns 10 years old and will celebrate it at the Magic Water Circuit with a special season called Yo Soy Perfect Duplas, which will start this Saturday, March 19 at 8:30 p.m. In this special edition, the jury's table will be made up of Maricarmen Marín, Katya Palma, Mauri Stern and George Henderson.
With regard to its anniversary, we give you a recount of all the juries that walked through the imitation program, from its premiere in 2012 to the present day. Some of them were well-known faces in the medium, while other great artists recognized internationally.
RICARDO MORAN
At that time he was part of GV Producciones and not only did he produce the program, but also participated as a member of the jury. Ricardo Morán was characterized as the most rigorous judge of all, but he was also seen with an acid sense of humor that generated the laughter of viewers. At the beginning of 2021, he took a vacation because he wants to fully focus on his role as a father.
MARICARMEN MARIN
She was one of the first three members of the jury of Yo Soy. Remembered as the “sweet princess”, the cumbia singer put the share of tenderness in the program, although she was also quite strict when it was her turn to evaluate the performance of the participants. She gained popularity for creating the segment “Sister, Friend, Woman” with Katia Palma and also for her peculiar English pronunciation. “Corco Bain,” he said about the imitator of the vocalist of Nirvana in the first season.
FERNANDO
The comedic actor was part of the first seasons of Yo Soy, from 2012 to 2014. Armas put the touch of humor on the show, especially in times of tension. He retired from the jury table to return to comedy in the program Comediando, which was broadcast on Willax Televisión. “I finished a cycle because I have another project that weighs more than the jury,” he said on his way out.
KATIAPALMA
After the departure of Fernando Armas, the television station decided to bet on the entry of Katia Palma, who was already very popular as the co-host of Habacilar. The claun was also very well complemented by Maricarmen Marín and Ricardo Morán. His direct and somewhat sarcastic humor fascinated the audience. She is even remembered for flirting with the participants using her classic “maitito”. He is part of the jury of Yo Soy from 2014 to the present day.
CARLONCHO
The radio host surprised everyone by being announced as the new judge of Yo Soy, in 2016. Unfortunately, Carloncho did not appear again after starring in a scandal over an alleged assault on Argentinian Lucas Piro, who was dance partner of Rosángela Espinoza, her then lover, in El Gran Show.
MAGDYELUGAZ
The renowned actress of Al Fondo Hay Sitio was invited to sit on the jury in 2018 after several years of being away from Latina. His time in the program was brief, although he always showed good chemistry with his peers.
JOHANNA SAN MIGUEL
When Maricarmen Marín and Magdyel Ugaz decided to step aside, the current host of This is Guerra entered Yo Soy Grande Batallas to take over the jury table. One of the most remembered moments was when he was moved to tears by the imitator's performance of Raphael. In 2021, Johanna did not appear again.
TONY SUCCAR
Faced with the departure of Ricardo Morán in 2021, the winner of two Latin Grammy Awards entered the program by todo lo alto. However, he said goodbye in March of that year to return to Miami, where he resides with his wife Lauren and where he had already agreed projects. Later, he returned to the country, but to be part of the coaches of La Voz.
ANGEL LOPEZ
The Puerto Rican singer, songwriter and producer, best known for having been the vocalist of the band Son by Four, replaced Tony Succar during the rest of the season of Yo Soy Grandes Batallas, three months in total. He did not return the following season because he traveled to the United States to join his children; however, he made it clear that he would have liked to remain a jury.
MAURI STERN
Since the Mexican producer sat in the jury's chair in November 2021, he caused quite a stir and put more than one in trouble with his acid comments. On more than one occasion he has faced his teammates, although he claims that he does everything for the good of the contestants. “There is nothing wrong, in me there is the demand, it is very different,” he said.
JORGE HENDERSON
The renowned Peruvian producer, host and journalist returned to Peruvian television in Yo Soy Grandes Batallas. During his participation in that season, he had more than one strong exchange of words with Mauri Stern. He was also a jury member of Yo Soy Nueva Generación, whose winner was the imitator of José José.
JANICK MACETA
The former Miss Peru officially became part of the jury of Yo Soy, Grand Battles in 2021. In addition to being a beauty queen, Janick is a renowned sound engineer who has worked with personalities such as Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, among other artists. In the program, she has been characterized by being sympathetic to the participants; in addition to giving the necessary advice for a better performance on stage.
SLAVIC JEDDAH AND JULIAN ZUCCHI
The couple joined Yo Soy Nueva Generación, which was already made up of Janick Maceta and Jorge Henderson. Although their participation was criticized at the beginning, they proved to be good judges when they criticized the performance of children's imitators. While Yiddah is an actress, Zucchi is remembered for having been part of the Parcheesi music group when he was a child.
