Why you shouldn't use TrueCaller to block spam calls

In recent years, Peruvians have suffered from uncomfortable calls from unknown numbers, also known as spam, that try to initiate communication with us in order to offer us some kind of service or product, complete surveys or simply as a scheme to scam us via telephone.

Because of this malaise, several companies dedicated to the creation of mobile applications have tried to provide a type of “support” so that these calls can be recognized and those who make them. Just go to the app store on your device to see the endless options that they offer us on the market.

This is how many have come to one called Truecaller, which is among the most popular and downloaded. Although it is presented as a solution to these annoying communications, its purpose would only harm us, and our contacts. Technology expert Arturo Goga shared on his YouTube channel an explanation of why we shouldn't download it to our cell phone.

The specialist used his platforms to explain what the work Truecaller does would be like in order to make a profit with this application that is apparently free.

Goga indicated that, if we do a simple test when visiting their website, we can find a search for numbers, such as an online directory. The explanation continues by mentioning that when we download the App, we give our number, profile picture, first name and last name that goes directly to the database. And that would not be all, since our contact list form would also be included.

He points out that a vicious cycle is generated, since companies, such as call centers, would download this personal data to make calls. In short, if we download it, we will only get our number to appear in a list of users that is used by third parties to include them in their databases.

HOW TO DELETE MY TRUECALLER NUMBER?

Goga posted a video on Tiktok in which she explains to her community how we can remove our Truecaller number in a few steps. Below, we share all the information you need to know about it:

STEP 1: You must enter the Truecaller website or click here to automatically address you.

STEP 2: On the screen you will see a message written in English stating that you must enter your mobile number accompanied by your country code.

STEP 3: If you are a Truecaller user and you have verified your number, you must first deactivate the account by going to the “Settings” menu in the app. Select the “Privacy Center” tab and then “Deactivate Account”.

IMPORTANT: Please note that it may take up to 24 hours before the number is deleted.

STEP 4: Enter your number and check the box that says “I'm not a robot” and finally on the “Unlist” button.
