Last Sunday, March 13, the legislative elections were held in the country, and at the end of the night Colombia was learning what the possible formation of the Senate of the Republic would be, however, days after the official counting of the votes, doubts arose about different votes that did not appear at the polling stations.
The denunciations led to an exceptional control of official scrutiny, in which irregularities were discovered that gave 390,000 votes to the Historical Pact and to a lesser extent to other closed lists such as the New Liberalism. Likewise, some parties have lost votes and seats, which has generated both negative and positive reactions in several candidates.
Maria Angelica Guerra López - Democratic Center (37,928 votes)
Candidate Maria Angelica Guerra López became an ace up her sleeve for the Guerra clan in the department of Sucre, of which she is part of in her third generation. This political house was born since the arrival of José Guerra Tulena in 1974 to Congress. From this family on the Atlantic Coast, the names of José Guerra de la Espriella, linked to the 8000 process, have also weighed the names of José Guerra de la Espriella, who was linked to the 8000 process; Antonio Guerra, investigated for the Odebrecht scandal and paramilitary groups, and finally Senator María del Rosario Guerra, who gave up his aspiration to Congress on this occasion to cede the position to his niece. The vote prevented the clan from continuing to constitute a major presence in the upper house with the third generation.
Esperanza Andrade Serrano - Colombian Conservative Party (64,290 votes)
The department of Huila is left without representation in the Senate of the Republic, since initially the candidate would have reached the last quota of the Conservative Party, ranking in the 16th seat of this political group. However, the latest movements of the scrutiny could leave her out. Andrade, before learning about these results, affirmed that the Historical Pact would have carried out a campaign of disinformation and defamation against his co-supporters in this department, which is why the low number of votes failed to provide him with security in the face of a possible movement of seats.
León Fredy Muñoz Lopera - Green Alliance and Esperanza Center Coalition (38,894 Votes)
The representative to the House, born in Ituango, Antioquia, supported presidential candidate Gustavo Petro Urrego throughout his campaign, since initially the coalition to which he belongs, gave each of the candidates a free way to support any presidential campaign, according to their affections. However, the benefits that the Historical Pact obtained from the recount affected him directly, because after reaching the last place on the threshold in the party, the number of votes would not be enough to definitively secure his seat.
Cesar Augusto Pachón Achury - Historical Pact
The Historical Pact initially presented a closed list, which is why it directly depended on the number of votes that were agreed in the ballot, against this the representative to the House, César Pachón, born in Carmen de Carupa (Cundinamarca), and who rose to fame as leader of the boyacense peasants in the 2013 agrarian strike, would rise to the fight of the seat he sought, promoting the counting of votes for several days in the Corferias precinct,
Sandra Yaneth Jaimes Cruz - Historical Covenant
A trade unionist in the department of Santander, actively leading the Union of Educators of this department, behind César Pachón', sought to reach the Senate of the Republic, since 4 years ago he tried to do so through the Alternative Santander list, reaching no more than 4000 votes, however, he managed to adhere to the Historical Pact to achieve his objective, and by the new scrutiny she benefited.
Paulino Riascos Riascos - Historical Pact
Social leader in an area of conflict, since from the municipality of López de Micay in Cauca, this journalist has carried out various activities promoting the spokesperson of communities, due to the increase in violence that has hit this area, initially invited all communities that have been characterized as a minority, support this list, which allowed him to join the awnings of Gustavo Petro to get a seat in the senate.
