Tribute to Malvinas in the shirt of a rising rugby club

Today, the t-shirt printed with a commemoration of the 1982 feast is debuting. How was the decision of the Circle of Former Cadets of the General San Martín Military Lyceum to join the 40th anniversary that will be celebrated on April 2

In honor of the heroes of Malvinas, the Circle of Former Cadets of the General San Martín Military Liceo will premiere today in the friendly match that will be played with Universitario de La Plata, a shirt with the Islands embroidered on the left sleeve. T he club that plays in the First B of URBA rugby has several former combatants as members and the idea is to pay tribute to them on the fortieth anniversary of the war in Las Malvinas.

In dialogue with Infobae Roberto de León, former player and former president of the club explained the initiative: “This shirt was made for the entire senior squad, we are going to use it throughout the tournament and possibly the other youth divisions will also have it. What we want is somehow to have a presence this year that marks the 40th anniversary of the feast of Las Malvinas and it occurred to us that on the sleeve it was a good place for this recognition. We were very surprised because it had a very good impact within the club community.”

It will not be the only activity to honor the anniversary, but it will be the first to debut with the team. Then, they have other actions planned for April.

But this will not be the only tribute that Liceo will pay to the former combatants, Cork, as Roberto de León is known within the club, says: “We have veterans from Malvinas within the club, some who were called to fill positions that were mobilized and we also have parents of boys who play in the club who also participated in the war, like Alberto Krogslund who was a marine. The idea is that on April 2, when we play at home against San Brendans, the band of the Military School will come together with the authorities to sing the anthem and the march of Las Malvinas. In general, because of our relationship with the school as alumni or former cadets, on some date the band comes to a match they play and it is a holiday for the club. This year we decided that day will be April 2 as it commemorates the fortieth anniversary.”

On sports, the former cadet explains: “The truth is that Liceo came out very well in these tough years of pandemic, the top squad is very numerous, there is a strong replacement and a new litter came up with many boys. I would tell you that it is a year of transition and we are working very hard with the technical team. The goal is to fight as high as possible, we know that ascending is very difficult but it is the dream. As for juveniles, we are fine, but there was a lot of suffering from the fall of the boys, it was the age that was the lowest during the pandemic, but with very good success in children”.

As for women's hockey, which is the other sport of the club, de León adds: “In hockey, the two strips we have have experienced promotions in recent years, so they are very consolidated and we are in full growth, in fact we are putting together a third strip at the pre-competitive level that we are very excited about, even more so knowing that we are a young club in this sport since we are less than 20 years old.”
