The new Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) is about to be inaugurated and on the eve of opening its doors, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced this morning that this air terminal will be serviced by air taxis from some areas of Mexico City such as Polanco.
The Santa Lucia airport, as it is also known, is one of the great works promoted by the administration of the president of Mexico, however, since the cancellation of the Texcoco airport this Fourth Transformation project has been involved in controversies and divided opinions regarding its usefulness and appearance.
This occasion was no exception and after the announcement of this new air taxi service, thousands of social media users did not miss the opportunity to create and spread funny memes about the operation of this means of transport to reach Felipe Angeles International Airport (AIFA).
The president's traditional morning conference was broadcast this Friday, March 18 from the municipality of Minatitlán in Veracruz, and during that event, Andrés Manuel López Obrador highlighted that the use of Felipe Angeles International Airport (AIFA) is a service that is not available to most of the population, since the poorest mobilize via terrestrial
“This airport thing is a great work, a pride for Mexico. We must also think that unfortunately not all of us can travel by plane. I don't know, but I think 30 or 40 percent of the population can travel. I mean, to locate us, because most of the people who have to move do so by truck, where it is cheaper for them. So let's get down to that first. Mexico belongs to everyone, rich and poor”, acknowledged the president.
Similarly, the president explained that Felipe Angeles International Airport (AIFA) will benefit not only residents of Mexico City but also those of neighboring states.
Faced with criticism about the remoteness of the new Santa Lucia Airport, the president of Mexico said that this great work is for all Mexicans, because “we are thinking of Felipe Ángeles Airport if we live in Santa Fe or Las Lomas, but if we live in Gustavo A. Madero or Ecatepec it is closer to the current airport. And what is the airport not going to be for everyone? for it to be close to Las Lomas we would have to do the airport in Paseo de la Reforma”
The executive leader in Mexico also recalled that in foreign cities such as New York, London or Madrid, airports are located on the outskirts of the metropolises and that, in the case of this new project, for people with a high purchasing level, the air taxis.
“(...) There will also be and I take this opportunity to announce, trips for those who have resources, from Polanco to the airport... Air taxis, they will almost drop them in their apartments... his department to the airport”, assured the president, while stressing that it was a private concession.
The head of the Ministry of National Defense, Luis Crescencio Sandoval, reported that three companies will be responsible for providing air taxi services and clarified that Felipe Angeles International Airport (AIFA) has a terminal for general aviation, allowing helicopters and other aircraft to land private facilities without disrupting airport operations.
Andrés Manuel López Obrador, president of Mexico, also pointed out that due to the saturation of the current Mexico City International Airport (AICM), some companies' flights will be gradually transferred to AIFA, highlighting that companies such as Viva Aerobus, Aeromexico and Volaris already have some destinations that will depart from the new airport.
