Thousands of applicants attended the campus of the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM) on March 12 to take the admission exam. Hours later, some were already celebrating their admission to the renowned house of studies, but evidence of an alleged leak of the test began to be published on social networks . Although initially, the admissions office described this as an “attempt to smear”, after several days of controversy, Rector Jeri Ramón confirmed that the 2022-II admissions process tests were annulled.
“In the absence of the prosecutor for crime prevention, the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos finds it necessary to declare the entire 2022-II admission process null and void because the evidence has been leaked during the hours of this examination,” he said at a press conference he received both applause and criticism, as the fact revealed the lack of security in a process so important for the university community.
A few hours after the leak of the evidence was known, the university's admissions office announced that it had requested the intervention of the Public Prosecutor's Office “for the initiation of investigations to determine responsibilities and initiate criminal action if appropriate.” So far it is not known what the authorities' involvement has been in resolving the scandal that occurred during the process of entering one of the best universities in the country.
“We ask for parents' understanding. We cannot allow students to enter buying tests and who have not dedicated themselves to studying. San Marcos is competition, San Marcos cannot afford to receive businessmen within our beloved alma mater,” the rector said during a press conference.
LEAKED IMAGES
On the night of March 12, a first post by a user identified as Josue Vasquez showed images of a chat where there were some of the questions that were part of the entrance test. However, the fact that attracted the most attention was the identical score of several applicants. Greycy Lyliana Quintos Vilchez and Jwen Lizeth Quintos Vilchez, two supposed sisters who applied for the Human Medicine degree, had exactly the same score.
However, this would not be the only case of an identical score. Gean Manuel Antonio Ruiz Ccasa, Evelyn Shirley, Sucasaire Sucasaire and Edu Ferdinan Baca Garcia scored three 19155,000 points, thus achieving the top positions. In the case of the latter, the aforementioned publication reported that in the previous exam, the applicant barely scored 800 points. “What mafia is behind this? What mafia makes them let cell phones into the exam? ”, wonders who published the alleged evidence of fraud.
The following tweets accounted for several similar messages sent to various numbers of those who would be applicants. They were offered the help service to guarantee income by ensuring that the same practice was already being carried out on past opportunities. “We are a group of students and professors who help to secure your vacancy for the career you are applying with a safe method that has been previously tested in other universities,” one of the conversations published on social networks reads.
In another of the alleged leaked conversations, it is possible to read how the person offering the service ensures that the payment is made after the applicant and the family verify the income. “My person and my group will support in the ordinary admission exam. We will have the exam hours before you and the keys will be transmitted through nanotechnology equipment,” says another conversation.
The university authorities have not confirmed whether they have precisely taken these tests under consideration for the cancellation of the test, they merely pointed out that “San Marcos cannot afford to receive traders”.
