The ratification of the pardon for former President Alberto Fujimori has generated reactions of all kinds in the political sector. For its part, the Peru-Libre party strongly rejected the ruling of the Constitutional Court (TC) and proposed a reform of the judicial system.
Through a statement, which was shared by its secretary general, Vladimir Cerrón, on his Twitter account, the party official stated that Fujimori Fujimori is “the living expression of the latest and systematic State terrorism applied to our country as a continuation of Alan García's genocidal policy”.
“Under the mandate of these rulers thousands of Peruvians died and are responsible for crimes against humanity,” the text continues.
Likewise, the Political Commission of Free Peru described it as a “defiant act” for the TC to issue a ruling “where it is not essential to safeguard the Political Constitution, but the interests of the economic powers that Fujimorism represents.”
In addition, he questioned that “the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic, represented by Javier Pacheco Palacios, makes' mutis' with respect to the civil reparation of more than 51 million soles that the former president has not paid to the Peruvian State”.
For this reason, Peru Libre proposes a reform of the judicial system in general, due to the “discrediting and moral collapse” in which it is immersed.
“These actions show that the judicial institutions in the country, to whom we have referred, are in collusion with the system that promotes impunity for major criminals who violate human rights, so the Party proposes that there be a reform of the judicial system in general, due to the discrediting and moral collapse into which they have fallen”, says
The statement concludes that “the crimes committed by the former president are crimes against humanity”, so if President Pedro Castillo does not proceed with the nullity of the pardon, an international tribunal will have to do so.
After learning that Alberto Fujimori will be released in the next few days, several parliamentarians from the government bench spoke out on the matter. Congressman Guido Bellido criticized the former president's family, noting that institutions and laws have been “run over” to achieve his freedom.
“The Fujimori continue to mock the People. They run over institutions and laws as they please. Now free Alberto's criminal and murderer will campaign; but first they will go for their main objective: to vacate President Castillo. The People will not allow it,” he shared on his Twitter account.
Meanwhile, legislator Kelly Portalatino stated that it is impossible to erase the crimes for which the former head of state was sentenced. “Neither forgiveness nor forgetting,” he said.
“No, Mr. Fujimori, we cannot forget the pain of the families victims of the Barrios Altos and La Cantuta massacres; the purchase of editorial lines and transfugal congressmen, the chicha newspapers, the presidential plane with cocaine and the disappearance of Fonavi's money,” he continued.
While the spokesman for Peru Libre, Waldermar Cerrón, said that justice must be equal for all, so he asked that the author of Andahuaylazo, Antauro Humala, also receive his pardon.
“If it's for one, it must be for everyone. This is the wrong or a good precedent that such decisions can leave. The country has bled too much. It is in these spaces that, again, are intensifying and remembering those years of violence that our country experienced,” the legislator said at a press conference.
“It's a matter of instance. I call for legal coherence, and I hope it will serve as a negative situation for the country. The marches will reflect the indignation, and that many may affect (the decision of the TC),” he added.
