The Attorney General's Office took action in the matter against the directors and officials of the La Picota penitentiary, in the south of Bogotá, from which it escaped this Friday, March 19, the criminal alias 'Matamba'. After confirming the situation, the Public Prosecutor's Office temporarily suspended Major Juan Gabriel Papa Gordillo and Oscar Augusto Bedoya Méndez, director and deputy director of the capital's prison.
And they weren't the only sanctions. The Public Prosecutor's Office also applied this measure to 55 guards of the National Penitentiary and Prison Institute (Inpec); even hours after the escape of Juan Larrison Castro Estupiñán, the name of the now fugitive, was confirmed, the Colombian justice captured one of the dragonists of INPEC who allegedly participated in the plan for Matamba to escape.
Attorney General Margarita Cabello spoke out about this embarrassing event, which she described as “unacceptable” and which puts the country's prison system in check again; the official assured that they will have all the tools necessary to clarify what happened. “We are at the forefront of a shameful new fact that deserves the rejection of all Colombians,” Cabello said in a video broadcast on official channels.
On the other hand, the Attorney General's Office announced that, together with the Attorney General's Office, they will work on the construction of an agenda that will allow them to find the criminal and solve this fact, which adds to the difficulties and controversies faced by INPEC throughout the national territory.
Likewise, the corporation led by Cabello asked the heads of La Picota prison to compel documents confirming how the change of guards was done in recent days, inventories of uniforms, orders for the transfer of flags, among other information that would identify the dragonists who left escape the crook.
The capture of the Inpec guard involved in the Matamba escape was announced by the same Minister of Justice, Wilson Ruiz, who confirmed that not only will the Public Prosecutor's Office investigate prison officials, but that the Government is also managing the relevant inquiries.
According to what became known this Friday, the individual's escape plan would have been carried out in complicity with men from Inpec, since the feared criminal left at dawn in Inpec clothing, in this case he identified himself as a dragonist of this institution wearing his allusive garments.
“I communicate with the law firm of La Picota by telephone, I ask her to be given some information regarding the whereabouts of my client, and what the doctor says is that she cannot give me information by telephone, that she send a letter, I have just made the office addressed to the director of La Picota and legal, I hope they respond because they never really respond to emails, my concern is because I do fear for his life and safety,” Angélica Martínez, defense lawyer of Matamba, told the microphones of W Radio station.
It should be recalled that initially some versions stated that the subject was at a clandestine party in another pavilion inside the prison. However, the authorities found a man with similar characteristics to those of the drug trafficker, but after carrying out the fingerprint verification process, the signs showed the opposite: the man who, in the sun of this Saturday, March 19, is still at large from justice did escape.
