The steady rise that Saúl Álvarez's career has seen has classified him as one of the best exponents of Mexican boxing today. Some fans have compared him to Julio César Chavez, a situation that has generated a debate about who is the best boxer in national history. Although they have been placed as sports rivals, the Mexican Grand Champion announced his true opinion on the trajectory of the tapatio.

“As long as I don't touch the affection and love that Mexico has for me and wherever I go, nothing happens. He can win 5, 10 or 30 fights and nothing happens. I am glad that he continues to break records, that he continues to make history because he has earned it, no one has given him anything. There is no envy or anything,” he said during a talk with Eduardo Lamazón, panelist for Azteca Deportes.

The year 2021 was marked by a historic achievement in which the best pound for pound in the world was consolidated as a pioneer. After sweeping all the 168-pound champions, Canelo became the first character in the division to win each of the world belts, although he is also the only one born in Mexico to have achieved it.

The undisputed championship, as well as his almost perfect record and the conquest of fajillas in four different weight classes impressed one sector of the fans. There were even those who pondered these arguments over those provided by the Mexican Grand Champion throughout his professional career. However, the native of Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, did not attach importance to this trial.

Every Mexican fighter in the world champion in his time has been great and has been the best. It's good that now young people like Canelo are reaping what you sowed,” he said.
