The former president of Colombia and conservative leader, Andrés Pastrana Arango, does not seem to be very happy with the results of the official ballots of the legislative elections of March 13, consolidated this morning by the General Registry of the Nation.
This was announced through his Twitter account this Friday afternoon, after it became known that the Conservative Party would lose the seat of Senator Esperanza Andrade and that the progressive list of the Historical Pact would be left with a total of 19 places.
Pastrana accused registrar Alexander Vega of keeping silent after he asked him to explain his alleged personal relationship with the company Indra, which provided the software for the last elections. He also said he took legal action in this regard.
Minutes later, he dared to use bolder words about the election results. He also assured that more auditing companies are needed to verify his theory of fraud.
Pastrana's accusations about Indra's alleged interference to alter the elections are not new. Last February, the former president had drawn attention to an alleged meeting of Gustavo Petro with company executives.
“The reasons for Petro's suspicious meeting today in Madrid with the president of Indra, contractor and software provider for the Registry and the National Electoral Council, must be clarified to the country ahead of the elections,” Pastrana said through her Twitter account.
At that time, the Registrar had to go out and say that the process was not in charge of a private company but, on the contrary, would be in the hands of the State. This was ordered by the Council of State. The system was then operated by the Registrar's Office and was supervised by political parties and international organizations.
On the other hand, Indra also had to respond to these accusations by Pastrana: she assured that the Petro-Indra meeting never took place. In fact, the company's CEO, Marc Murtra, was not even in Spain when Petro went on his European tour.
The Historical Pact, the Liberal Party and the New Liberalism regained votes after official scrutiny. The first had close to 390,152 additional votes, the latter 4,450 and the third, led in the list presented by Mábel Lara, reached 22,948 additional votes; however, they were not enough to pass the threshold necessary to reach the Senate of the Republic.
In contrast, the other teams and coalitions lost votes in this last ballot: the Conservative lost 12,345 votes; Centro Esperanza, 50,964; Centro Democrático, 54,964; Radical Change, 24,372; U 12,036 party; Mira and Colombia Justa Libres 26,629; Citizen Force 22,948 (they were not enough to put senators) and Estamos Listas 104, that they won't make it to the upper house either.
