Rosalba Ortiz, Geraldine Bazán's mother, denied that the event where Eleazar Gómez would be given a Luminaria Presea was canceled by Galerias Plaza de las Estrellas due to his past as Tefy Valenzuela's aggressor. On the contrary, he noted that it could have been suspended due to the large number of fans who hoped would receive the actor.
This March 18 Galerías Plaza de las Estrellas had scheduled the delivery of recognition to Eleazar Gómez, however, when announcing the event, netizens lashed out at the organizers for giving an award to the actor after he was released from prison, where he was for having beaten his then-girlfriend, Stephanie Valenzuela.
This caused the organizers of the awards to launch a letter stating that they were committed to women and against gender - based violence, and since recognition would have been given to Eleazar, they cancelled the event at the last minute.
However, Rosalba Ortiz, who is very close to the Gómez family, denied that the delivery of the Presea Luminaria was canceled because of Eleazar's past, assured that these were organizational problems, because the actor would have attracted many fans and the Plaza de las Estrellas would not have been able to hold so many people in its facilities.
“It was canceled, I also asked why, (they told me) that because they were causes alien to the (square), but not because of Eleazar,” he said in a meeting with the press, captured by Berenice Ortiz.
Before her statements, the reporters let her know that in the statement they pointed out that it was due to Gómez's presence, to which she replied: “To make excuses, it can be anyone. On the contrary, I think that maybe they foresaw or saw that many fans were arriving.”
Ortiz even compared Eleazar to a K-Pop group, which would have had problems at an event with their fans, because due to the number of attendees and the emotions they experienced, some young women fainted.
“To welcome someone famous, passions obviously overflow. As for there are many people, you know that Plaza... where the event is held, it is very small (...) They said that the awards were going to be handed out until next week, well, they let us know,” said Geraldine's mother.
Again, the reporters asked him why in the statement it was noted that the event was canceled due to the presence of the protagonist of Dare to Dream, to which he again responded negative and revealed that the coordinator of the Plaza de las Estrellas would have been the one who proposed to invite him.
On the other hand, he mentioned that if there had been real justice in the case of Tefi Valenzuela, Eleazar would not have been in jail for three months, but for only 15 days. He also argued that the histrion did not have a good defense and for that reason alone was deprived of his freedom.
Markos D1, who accompanied Rosalba Ortiz, commented that he talked to Gómez after the event was canceled and “it sounded annoying, like he didn't want to talk about it (...) He wants to give him all the desire in the world and sees that people continue to harass him and he can't escape what he already paid for,” he said.
The award to be held on March 18 received criticism from Internet users, as they emphasized that the recognition would be given to someone who was imprisoned for equated family violence and, in addition, it would be given in Women's Month.
