The prominent politician Rafael Pardo, former candidate for the mayoral office of Bogotá and the first civilian to become Minister of Defense in the country's recent history, suffered a heart attack on Friday, so he had to receive emergency care at the Shaio clinic, in the north of the Colombian capital, where he had an intervention for which he is now out of danger.

This was reported by the former minister himself through his official Twitter account, where he detailed that he will soon be discharged to resume his activities.

“To the hundreds of people who have asked about me, thank you very much! I'm fine. It was a heart attack, they managed to unclog an artery by catheterization fortunately. As always in the best hands at the Shaio Clinic. Hoping to be recovered to return to activities next week,” he said through the social network.

The politician, who was Minister of Labour in the government of President Juan Manuel Santos, has been involved in electoral movements in the last two months, including adding his support to the campaign of former president of the Universidad de los Andes, Alejandro Gaviria, who sought to be the presidential candidate of the Centro coalition Hope.

“I want Alejandro Gaviria to be the next President of the Republic because it represents responsible change. His public and academic career has always been guided by decency. He is a Democrat, a convinced liberal, a transformer of the status quo,” he trinated on that occasion.

Pardo is also close to Germán Vargas Lleras and former President César Gaviria, as he was their defense minister, so he invited them to have a coffee in view of the presidential elections in May, and that there were rumors that the presidential candidacy of the leader of Radical Change was then rumored to be registered for the presidential candidacy.

“I invited Germán Vargas and César Gaviria to have a red wine to talk about the elections and the country. I count it so that they don't speculate,” he posted on his Twitter account on Tuesday.

The former vice-president replied in the affirmative to his invitation, while Gaviria did not attend as according to Semana magazine, he would have preferred it to be at his home, where almost all the presidential candidates trying to seduce the Liberal Party to gain their support have been seen parading.

However, Vargas Lleras confirmed that he was giving up the 2022 presidential elections and in his party the registration of Germán Córdoba, who had registered as a presidential candidate to “save the quota” for the former vice president, was withdrawn.

It is now rumored that Radical Change would be adding its support to the candidacy of former mayor of Medellín Federico Gutiérrez. In fact, they already held a meeting last Thursday at the Carlos Lleras Restrepo Foundation, and as RCN Radio was able to establish, the Bogotá politician talked with Gutiérrez about a possible union, however, there was no specific point to define this link and the doors were left open, because in this case, Vargas is the representative of Radical Change that is endorsed by the party to establish communication with all candidates and looks forward to hearing more proposals.

In the face of this meeting, Vallecaucano Senator Carlos Abraham Jiménez told RCN Radio that the dialogues established between Radical Change and any candidate for the presidency should be directly linked to a program agenda of the party, bearing in mind that the aspirant who seeks to lead the country must have a legislative package similar to that of this community in order to establish a commitment to take it forward.
