A new Formula 1 season is underway and this Saturday the qualification of the Bahrain Grand Prix was held, the first date of the 2022 World Cup of the top category of motorsport. On the Sakhir circuit, pole position was left to Charles Leclerc. The Ferraris made things difficult for Max Verstappen, as he placed second ahead of Spaniard Carlos Sainz.

At the start of qualifying, Ferrari once again demonstrated its full power with a great performance by Charles Leclerc in Q1. In just one lap, the Monegasque endorsed three tenths to Max Verstappen and placed first. Tsunoda, Hulkenberg, Ricciardo, Stroll and Latifi were the first to be killed.

But already in Q2, the best time was for a Verstappen who stopped his timer at 1:30 .757 to take the lead. It earned him his first attempt to go straight to the fight for pole. For their part, Lewis Hamilton and Russell's Mercedes placed fifth and sixth, with a gap of seven and eight tenths with the young Dutch driver. Ocon, Schumacher, Norris, Albon and Zhou were the ones left at the gates of the fight for pole.

In the last free practice session before qualifying, the reigning world champion had already completed a better return to Sakhir's track in 1:32 .544, followed closely by Monegasque Charles Leclerc (1:32 .640). Behind the Ferrari driver, came the Mexican Checo Pérez.

This relatively young circuit, which premiered in 2004, is 5,412km long and on Sunday the riders will have to complete 57 laps. It is a track that has three DRS zones, with few fast corners (15) and with 56% of its route made up of straights.
