After a one-year Malvinera vigil was decreed in April 2021, various events will frame the 40th anniversary of the feast. There are still no clarifications on the participation of President Alberto Fernández in any of the planned ceremonies.

On April 2, in the main square of the Ministry of Defense, former Minister of the Area Agustín Rossi initiated the so-called “Malvinera Vigil in the Face of the 40th Anniversary of the Gesta”.

Now, two weeks before the emblematic date, the plan of activities with which the nation's political and military authorities will honor the memory of those killed in combat and pay tribute to those who returned alive to the continent begins to be unveiled.

“Instruct the Chiefs of General Staff of the Armed Forces to carry out acts in the military units under their orbit that are intended to pay tribute to veterans who have fallen (and their families) during the South Atlantic conflict on the occasion of its fortieth anniversary on the occasion of its fortieth anniversary on 2 April,” states the first article of the provision released this Friday by the dissemination team of the current minister Jorge Taiana.

Furthermore, in the subsequent articles, the holder of the portfolio provides that the military commanders “arbitrate the necessary measures within their respective forces to ensure that the military personnel in their charge participate and provide collaboration in public events held in the framework of the commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the conflict”.

In accordance with the foregoing, Taiana also ordered its subordinate commanders to open all units, barracks and military bases that house cultural spaces suitable for dissemination and awareness throughout the national territory of the Argentine sovereign rights with respect to “Falkland Question” and also honor veterans and their families.

Military sources consulted by Infobae anticipated that, although the central act is not yet defined, whether the presence of Taiana and other senior national officials is confirmed in the traditional vigil that will take place from 21.00 on April 1 in the city of Rio Grande, province of Tierra del Fuego.

Regarding the presence of the President of the Nation during the traditional ceremony that the Joint General Staff of the Armed Forces holds every year at the cenotaph located in San Martín Square, in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Retiro, and in the main square of the Libertador Building, headquarters of the Ministry of Defense, no details have been provided. It is worth remembering that the first president turned 63 that day, since he was born on Thursday, April 2, 1959.

In parallel to the national events, each of the 24 provinces has organized its own commemorations, in which the different provincial veteran centers will play the main role.

In the case of the City of Buenos Aires, the Buenos Aires government is calling on veterans domiciled in this district and who have completed their primary or secondary studies in public schools to lead the raising of the national flag in their respective schools. This activity will last over the 74 days between April 2 and June 14, the date on which the war ended.

For their part, institutions such as the Malvinas War Veterans Association (the largest and most representative nationally) and the Argentine Naval League, will join the commemoration by mobilizing their associates to San Martín Square and holding dissemination days in different educational establishments at the primary and secondary.

The so-called “Gesta de Malvinas” began to take place at 06.15 on April 2, 1982, when the armored amphibious vehicles that made up the “Task Force 40.1”, composed of Marines and members of the 25th Infantry Regiment of the Argentine Army, made up of Marines and members of the 25th Infantry Regiment of the Argentine Army.
