Don't be fooled, the messages about tax discounts from the Ministry of Finance are false

The entity reiterated that it is not offering any type of benefit or discount on the payment of late taxes

In recent days, a text message has been circulating where, supposedly, benefits such as discounts of up to 80% of penalties and interest are offered to those who pay the vehicle tax of previous years by 31 March at the latest.

The District Treasury Secretariat clarified that the message that has been disseminated in recent days is false and does not come from the entity.

We want to make it clear to the people of Bogota that this message was not sent by the Bogotá Treasury Secretariat. Currently, the city does not offer a benefit that generates a discount on the payment of late taxes,” explained Pablo Verástegui, District Director of Collection at the Ministry of Finance,.

Finally, the Ministry of Finance reiterated that it is not offering any type of benefit that generates a discount on the payment of late taxes.

Withholding agents of the Industry and Commerce (ICA) tax who have made withholdings as ICA, corresponding to the first two months of the taxable year 2022, must declare and pay their obligation no later than Monday 14 to Friday 18 March, according to the last identification digit. After that date, they will have to assume sanctions for extemporaneity and moratorium interests.

We remind taxpayers of the tax that, in order to ease congestion and speed up their return and payment processes, we suggest, in the current validity period, to comply with the obligation until the date corresponding to the identification number assigned in the tax calendar. However, it should be clarified, a common deadline is maintained for all agents”, explains District Finance Secretary Juan Mauricio Ramírez.

It is worth remembering that in recent days there have also been long lines in front of the city's Supercade stalls, made up of thousands of citizens who have been deceived about a supposed turn of the Guaranteed Minimum Income program. All this, despite the fact that the Department of Finance District of Bogotá has repeated to the point of exhaustion that they do not address the beneficiaries of subsidies through text messages.

Text messages ensure that the person has a cumulative balance that sometimes exceeds one million pesos. Generally, these messages include a link to an unofficial page of the Mayor's Office of Bogotá. In the midst of necessity and naivety, some citizens entered the links.

Once there, users are asked to fill out a form with sensitive information, such as their identity document or address. Then, the unscrupulous ask people to approach a Supercade with a photocopy of their ID and a proof that they themselves give, obviously false. In other cases, the fake page recommends carrying a drafted right of petition.

News journalists such as Red+ Noticias and RCN News found it very strange that those long lines appeared, so they went to talk to those who were waiting there. Some people said they arrived at the Supercade at three in the morning to wait for the supposed turn.

Others, even after being confronted by the reporter about the veracity of the text message, decided to continue lining up to claim the non-existent Guaranteed Minimum Income money. Other users, once dispatched by Supercade staff, showed frustration that the “information” on their cell phones does not match that of the system.

According to the strategic coordinator of Guaranteed Minimum Income, Mauricio Sandino, there are no money accumulated or delayed from the program. First, the beneficiary households have been contacted directly by the District, without text messages. Second, payments for 2021 and the first two in 2022 were made on the dates indicated.

In addition, according to Antonio Avendaño, Undersecretary of District Planning, one of the requirements to participate in Guaranteed Minimum Income is to have an account with Davivienda, Bancolombia or Movii. Once the draft is made, people can claim it to the nearest bank correspondent with their document, without having to stand in line, fill out forms or submit additional documents.
