Anti-corruption prosecutor Javier Pacheco revealed the figure that former President Alberto Fujimori owes the Peruvian State. In total, the former president still owes S/51 million soles of civil reparation for three cases in which he was sentenced by the judiciary.
The prosecutor explained that this amount corresponds to the compensation for the cases: the irregular search of the home of Vladimiro Montesinos, the irregular purchase of Cable Canal and the payment of the CTS to his former advisor.
It is recalled that the former president has not paid any of the civil reparations imposed on him as part of his sentence, and on 17 March the Constitutional Court reinstated his pardon humanitarian and the law of grace.
“Fujimori has been sentenced and has the State aggrieved for three facts: the issue of irregular break-ins, the irregular purchase of Cable Canal and the payment of the CTS from Vladimiro Montesinos. For these three events Fujimori owes the State approximately 51 million soles,” he said on RPP Television.
LIFE PENSION AS FORMER PRESIDENT
Pacheco also commented on an alleged seizure of his life pension as a former president of Peru and called that version “completely false.” He explained that since the former president fled to Japan in November 2000, and then resigned from the presidency by fax, he did not carry out any procedures to obtain it.
“What has happened is that the pension has to be processed by him and since he fled the country he has not processed this pension both as a former teacher of the Agrarian University, as well as his pension in Congress as a former president,” he explained.
“If he were to process it, that pension would immediately be repossessed. Today it would total approximately 5 million soles,” he added.
In addition, he noted that so far Alberto Fujimori has not registered any property or property in his name that could be seized as payment of civil reparation.
“We are attentive and attentive to any action because it has already been reviewed in the whole area with regard to the assets or properties that it may have to execute an embargo, however no good has been found,” he said.
INDULTO A ALBERTO FUJIMORI
On Thursday, March 17, the Constitutional Court reviewed and discussed the habeas corpus filed by lawyer Gregorio Parco to invalidate the Supreme Court's decision, which annulled the pardon of Alberto Fujimori. The final ruling was in favor of the measure: the pardon was validated for the former president, who is sentenced to 25 years in prison for the Barrios Altos and La Cantuta case.
It is recalled that the pardon was given to the former head of state on Christmas 2017, by then-President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski (PPK). With this new decision, the TC declares one of the three cases seeking the release of the former president founded.
Judge Ernesto Blume explained and supported the measure to give effect to the Judiciary's judgment. In addition, according to the court's decision and vote, the pardon was also restored to the former president, leaving him free.
As TC magistrate Eloy Espinosa told TV Peru, the vote ended in a draw of 3 votes in favor to 3 votes against. In situations like that, it is up to the president of the constitutional body to make the final decision. In this way, Augusto Ferrero Costa ended up voting in favor of habeas corpus.
They voted against, as planned: Marianella Ledesma, Eloy Espinosa-Saldaña and Manuel Miranda. On the other hand, Ernesto Blume and José Luis Sardón voted in favor.
