The Brazilian comic book “Escucha, bella Márcia”, by Marcello Quintanilha, won Saturday the award for best album of the year at the Angoulême Festival in France, considered the most important comic book event in the world.
“Escuta, Formosa Márcia”, of its name in Portuguese, was published in September in the French publishing house Çà et Là. The story tells the dilemmas of a mother who lives in a favela near Rio de Janeiro, whose daughter falls into the violent mesh of the gangs.
Marcello Quintanilha, son of a professional footballer, was born in 1971 and left Brazil 20 years ago to move to Barcelona, in Spain.
In 2016, he had already won Angoulême's black novel prize for “Tungsten”.
The Festival was held again with guests after having canceled its 2021 edition due to the covid-19 epidemic.
