Milan San Remo, one of the oldest Italian competitions, will be one of the first classics of the cycling calendar that will bring together great riders who will claim the title. Little by little, the most important cyclists in the world show themselves in different scenarios, while adding kilometers in search of reaching their main goals with the best sensations.

However, a race with Milan San Remo is not a transitional round for several of them, as it is the first classic of the 5 most important monuments of world cycling. The other four are the Paris Roubaix, Liege Bastogne Liege, Giro d'Lombardy and the Tour of Flanders in Belgium.

One of the main riders arriving with the greatest favouritism is the two-time Tour de France champion, Tadej Pogacar, who has also been in great shape since his start of the season winning all three competitions he has been in: UAE Tour, Strade Bianche and the Tyrrhenian Adriatic.

However, as rivals he will have riders of the caliber of Primoz Roglic who arrives with a strong block in the Jumbo Visma led mainly by Belgian Wout van Aert, who would ultimately be the card that would go for the title.

In addition to them would be Giacomo Nizzolo, former Olympic champion Greg van Avermaet, former 2019 world champion Mads Pedersen and three-time world champion Peter Sagan, to name a few.

Some of the squads that will be played in San Remo have yet to be confirmed, although two Colombians are in the first instance: Jhonatan Restrepo and Didier Merchán with the Drone Hopper-Androni Team of Italy.

Milan San Remo will have its traditional 293 km course, one of the longest and most demanding of the entire season, and which usually has points where attacks can occur surprisingly. Despite the importance of this race for the track record of some cyclists, it is expected that there will be some care to prevent accidents that may affect part or the rest of the season.

The winner of 2021, Belgian Jasper Stuyven of the American team Trek Segafredo, will not be there to defend the title, so this year perhaps a new name can be written in the long list of winners of the race.

Among the novelties that will be presented for this event is the return of Dutch Mathieu Van der Poel from Alpecin Fenix to road racing, after taking a few months of recovery from a back injury.

Although it has been said that the winning cyclist will arrive without great expectations given that he has not had competitions since January when he participated in some rounds of cyclocross.

As a precedent, in 2021 the best result for the Colombians was that of Antioquia Sergio Higuita, who achieved the 36th place reaching just 10 seconds behind the winner, while Fernando Gaviria took the 113th place, arriving more than 7 minutes behind Jasper Stuyven.
