This Friday, March 18, the mayor of Medellín, Daniel Quintero, announced that the high bridge of the Colombian highway interchange with the 80 is already enabled.
The local president stressed that the important infrastructure work was delivered ahead of schedule. According to the projections of the Mayor's Office of Medellín, this bridge would be delivered in May of this year. However, it should be noted that the work is not yet 100% finished.
Because the infrastructure work is not fully completed, local authorities announced that the bridge will not be operational 24 hours a day. Traffic through Colombia's highway interchange with 80th Street will only be enabled between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
According to Daniel Quintero's announcement, only until April will the bridge be enabled at 100%, that is, 24 hours a day.
Natalia Urrego, Secretary of Physical Infrastructure of Medellín, said on a previous occasion that this road exchange will not only have a positive impact on mobility, but also that its execution generates 15,360 square meters of new public space that will include platforms and street furniture.
The Mayor's Office of Medellín highlighted that with the execution of Colombia's road exchange with Calle 80, 329 jobs have been generated, 89 of them in the community, equivalent to 30%, and 26 women, representing 8% of the construction personnel.
It should be recalled that for the implementation of this infrastructure project, the municipal administration invested more than 45 billion pesos. In addition, it is important to highlight that this work will give way to the Metro de la 80.
Likewise, it should be noted that the load tests of this road work were carried out on February 14, when eight dump trucks, with a special protocol established, each with 24 tons of load, circulated and were located at strategic points on both roads of the bridge.
What is the 80th Street Interchange?
According to Empresa de Desarrollo Urbano, the road interchange on Colombia Street is an elevated bridge that runs from east to west and that will cross Avenida 80, improving the mobility of at least five communes in the west of the city.
According to the entity, this infrastructure work will provide “hard and soft public space for pedestrians and is one of the first steps towards the road development of the mass transport corridor of the 80″.
The project will have 514 forest compensation trees, 4,000 m2 of new public space and green areas, 430 meters of high bridge length, new furniture and living areas, as well as pedestrian accessibility and safe crossings, according to the Urban Development Company.
