The management of the Mexican National Team has announced the list of players called up for the closing of the World Cup qualifier at Concacaf. Gerardo Martino and the tricolor team face the last three matches of the Octagonal Final in search of a ticket to the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
The figures of the Mexican ensemble such as Hector Herrera, Raúl Jimenez, Hirving Lozano or Jesus Tecatito Corona, are considered within the planning of the coaching staff. However, usual in each call, elements that are going through a good time in football and that were left out of the list stand out.
Next, five of the players that their absence attracts attention when they are going through a good time in their respective clubs and who will not represent Mexico. It is important to mention that both Andrés Guardado and Rogelio Funes Mori will not be there for the commitments, but it is because they have injuries.
If there is an accurate signal to the call of Tata, it is due to the lack of presence of the side of the Pumas of the UNAM. Mozo has become a key player in obtaining favorable results for the university students in Liga MX and recently in the Concacaf Champions League where they are already placed in the championship semifinals.
Apparently for the Argentine coaching staff, the level of the auriazul does not stand out above the so-called Jesús Angulo, Jorge Sánchez, Israel Reyes or Gerardo Arteaga, elements who normally occupy the same position.
El Chicharito has not been considered to represent Mexico since September 2019. Gerardo Martino and the directors of the Mexican Football Federation have decided to veto the national team striker. Not in relation to their level of play, but to extra-court themes that neither Tata nor Yon de Luisa have made clear.
Hernandez is playing for LA Galaxy in Major League Soccer, he was the team's goalscorer in 2021 and in the current season he has already scored two scores in his first three league matches. Chicharito is Mexico's current top scorer in history, but neither this nor his good level are arguments to call him again as demonstrated by the administration of the national squad.
Santos Laguna's goalkeeper was again off the squad list. Until now, the goalkeeper has not been able to win a place in the Tri against the presence of Ochoa, Talavera, Cota and Orozco, all veteran footballers.
It is true that the timing at the club level is bad (the Warriors were eliminated from the Concacaf Champions League by Montréal and in Liga MX they are ranked eleventh after a difficult start to the tournament), but individual performance has not changed to stop considering their skills as outstanding.
The 21-year-old has gained a foothold in the midfield of the Cruz Azul Machine. Lira's strength in celestial containment has allowed the team to qualify for the Concachampions semifinals and be fifth in the standings of the local tournament. With the absolute Mexican national team, the footballer has been called only twice.
Of the list, it is perhaps the one with the fewest arguments to claim a place in the Tri. Former Chivas and Cruz Azul had been a recurring element in Gerardo Martino's calls, but apparently his little participation with the Spanish Celta de Vigo has left him without the opportunity to participate in the closing of the Octagonal Final.
