The President of the Republic, Pedro Castillo, announced today that he will convene the National Agreement so that all sectors of the country, represented in this instance, can reach consensus and move Peru forward. “In the framework of turning the page and ending the confrontation, we will call for the National Accord. We hope that no one is left behind, we must all have a say, because we all care about the country and we must do our part to move it forward,” he noted.

The president received this afternoon, at the Government Palace, representatives of the National Assembly of Regional Governments (ANGR), who handed him a document proposing to the Executive to convene the National Agreement to institutionalize the dialogue and consultation, in order to ensure the country's mechanisms of stability and governance.

The head of state said that he endorsed the request of the regional governors, who recently met in an extraordinary assembly.

“I welcome the initiative that is in tune with our democratic principle. I said it at the time and also before Congress in the message to the country: I am a Democrat and, as such, I am respectful of the popular will,” he said.

He argued that it is time to tell the country that the three levels of government must agree, because differences cannot move forward.

“The country is vigilant of what we do and do not do, much more so with mayors and regional governors; the three levels of government must agree. I greet the initiative again, Peru and the world also see it with good eyes,” he said.

THREE LEVELS OF GOVERNMENT

Castillo said that all authorities, at all three levels of government, must do their part to move the country forward.

“We are all interested in the country and we all have to do our part to move the country forward,” said the Head of State, participating in the delivery of the Political and Social Pact for National Unity and the Country Agenda, at a ceremony held in the Courtyard of Honor of the Government Palace.

The pact is an initiative of the regional governors and supported by the mayors for the governance of the country.

The Head of State noted that the document is in tune with his sentiments and the democratic principles recently expressed in the message to the Congress of the Republic.

“I am a democratic man and as a democratic man I am respectful of the country's popular will (...) it is time to tell the country that the three levels of government have to feel the same way because with discrimination, with differences, we cannot move forward,” he said.
