The President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, led this Friday, March 18, at the Lázaro Cardenas del Rio refinery in Minatitlan, Veracruz, the ceremony to commemorate the 84th anniversary of the Oil Expropriation.
Octavio Romero Oropeza, director of Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex), said that the current administration of López Obrador is moving towards energy self-sufficiency and said that from 2018 to 2022, Pemex was able to reduce gasoline and diesel imports from almost 800,000 barrels a day to only 436,000 barrels per day, representing 48 percent.
Of this figure, he highlighted that of those 436,000 barrels per day that are imported, about 250,000 are produced in the Deer Park refinery, which was entirely acquired by Pemex.
He added that the decline in oil production has been reversed, which reached historic lows of 1 million 150 thousand barrels per day and currently stands at 1,800 barrels a day and estimated that by the end of this year it will increase by an additional 100,000 barrels.
This Friday, the president assured that his administration has sought the rescue of the company Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) and assured that the purpose is to guarantee energy self-sufficiency.
