The federal deputy for the Labour Party (PT), Gerardo Fernández Noroña, praised the work of Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) as Chief Executive, saying that “he is about to enter the list of the greatest presidents of Mexico.”
As part of the anniversary of the Oil Expropriation, the petista gave a historical account of the oil industry in Mexico. He also indicated that “energy sovereignty must be restored” and urged that the Electricity Reform be approved constitutionally.
During his speech from the rostrum in the Chamber of Deputies, Fernández Noroña assured that Lazaro Cardenas and Benito Juárez are “the two greatest presidents this nation has ever given,” however, he said that López Obrador is close to matching them.
“Long live General Lazaro Cardenas de Rio! Giant of the homeland, and together with Benito Juárez, the two greatest presidents that this nation has given... And there he goes, wanting to get into that privileged space the great comrade President López Obrador, who works in a patriotic and sovereign way to exalt our homeland,” said Fernández Noroña.
It is worth mentioning that Fernández Noroña has been one of the most faithful political figures in López Obrador's nation's project calling himself the Fourth Transformation (Q4). A clear example of this was when the Tabasqueño was strongly criticized for the letter with which he replied to the European Parliament, after the European Chamber demanded that the Mexican president stop violence against journalists and human rights activists.
Given this, on March 11, the petista wrote on Twitter: “Your new denuesto campaign persignates me. Like the previous ones, they will not be able to discredit a lifetime of struggle. Time puts everyone in their place. I stand by not only the time - which has ALWAYS proved me right - but above all to the people. I serve him, I stand by him,” Fernández Noroña wrote in the first instance. “And as I've said ALL along, we have the two main drivers of transformation: the leadership of comrade president @lopezobrador_ and the greatest leader, the politicized and struggling people of Mexico.”
However, they were not the only statements against the European Parliament in defense of the Chief Executive, as a few days ago he spoke about the issue again from the rostrum to ensure that the European Chamber's petition is nothing more than part of a coup campaign against the 4Q government.
“It is the famous lawfare, coup d'état in the name of the law, where campaigns are made against governments that serve the people and emerged from the heart of the people, to impose dominant economic interests,” said the petista.
In addition, he recalled that AMLO described MEPs as “sheep” in his letter of reply, however, the petista decided to label the members of Parliament from the old continent as “snakes”.
“They are said to have the right to comment on issues of freedom of expression and human rights (...) first he should have spoken to his counterpart, the Mexican parliament, discuss the issue, exchange information and if they nevertheless decided to make a statement, it was their right,” he said.
To the applause of his colleagues, he assured that Parliament demands to safeguard the lives of communicators, but they have not made any pronouncements in cases, for example, such as that of Julian Assange, who, according to his statements, “his only sin is to be a journalist who exposed the hypocrisy and the bastard economic and political interests of the government of the United States”.
