When Peru's attention was focused on the ratification of Alberto Fujimori's humanitarian pardon following the Constitutional Court's ruling, Daniel Salaverry was appointed as presidential adviser, according to a supreme resolution published in the official newspaper El Peruano.

“It is resolved to appoint Mr. Daniel Salaverry Villa to the position of presidential adviser to the Advisory Committee of the Presidential Office on government management, an honorary position,” says the document.

According to the Regulations on Organization and Functions of the Presidential Office, “the Presidential Office has an Advisory Committee that is made up of professionals, specialists or representatives of civil society, of recognized capacity or experience, appointed by supreme resolution”.

“The position of member of the Advisory Committee is honorary and trustworthy. It does not disqualify for the performance of any public function or private activity (...) it does not generate employment relationship of any kind with the Presidential Office”, it is detailed.

Resolution No. 112-2022-PCM, signed by President Pedro Castillo and the head of the Council of Ministers, Aníbal Torres, it was stated that the position of member of the Advisory Committee was honorary and reliable.

It should be noted that the former head of the Congress of the Republic visited the Government Palace this morning to hold a meeting with President Castillo Terrores. Upon his departure, he told the press that he spoke with the head of state about changes in the structure of the Government, however, he did not specify whether he was referring to the departure of ministers.

“What the president has always told me is that ministers are under constant evaluation; and yesterday he announced that he is going to make some changes to the structure of the Government. (But) I cannot announce whether this refers to ministers or not,” he said.

“In the light of the circumstances, I think it would be good if the president oxygenates his Cabinet and makes changes in those sectors that are not working, because they are being very questioned by the population,” he said.

ABOUT PARDON TO ALBERTO FUJIMORI

Prior to the TC's decision on the release of Fujimori Fujimori, Salaverry said that the failures of our justice system must be respected, “whether we like it or not.” In addition, he said that “the opinion of the president must be given by the spokesman for the Government, who is prime minister. I haven't talked to the president about this issue.”

“My personal point of view is that the decision of our justice system must be respected, whether we like it or not. We are within a constitutional framework, of a rule of law,” he added.

CRITICIZED CAESAR NAKASAKI

Finally, he criticized the fact that Karelim López's lawyer, Cesar Nakasaki, was revealing to the press that Pedro Castillo allegedly had a telephone conversation with the investigated businesswoman, statements that he should give only to the Office of the Prosecutor so as not to hinder investigations, in his view.

“I haven't talked to President Castillo about these legal issues. However, on a personal note, I can tell you that I am surprised that a lawyer with the experience and experience of Dr. Nazakaki is announcing this in the media and not recommending that his defendant not do it in front of a prosecutor, so that the prosecutor can investigate and can corroborate whether this version has a hold, it has some evidence or is it simply a strategy to complicate the president's situation in view of the coming vacancy motion,” he said.
