The members of the Union of Mayors of Mexico City (UNACDMX) expressed their disapproval of the mayor of Cuauhtémoc's involvement in the process, Sandra Cuevas Nieves, on the morning of this Thursday, March 17.
Through his official Twitter account, mayoral mayor Miguel Hidalgo, Mauricio Tabe Echartea, described as “an attack on democracy” the determination made by the control judge of the Norte Prison on the charges against Cuevas Nieves.
Tabe Echartea pointed out that the citizens of the demarcation voted for the representative of Va por Mexico on June 6, 2021; however, she accused the groups in power of taking away from the opposition “what they could not win at the polls.”
“What happened today with @SandraCuevas_ is a very serious attack on democracy. The neighbors of Cuauhtémoc voted for her and she was elected with all the law, but now they want to beat her the hard way what they couldn't win at the polls. All our support for her”, wrote the panista.
Likewise, the mayor of Álvaro Obregón, Lía Limón, described as an “attack on democracy” that the federal judge has linked to the trial to Cuevas Nieves for their alleged involvement in the crimes of theft, abuse of authority and discrimination.
As mentioned by Limón García, members of the Union of Mayors of Mexico City (UNADMX), as well as the leaders in the country's capital of the National Action Party (PAN), Andrés Atayde, and the Democratic Revolution (PRD), Nora Arias, attended the North Prison to support the mayor of the Cuauhtemoc, Sandra Cuevas.
Prior to the judicial determination, the representatives of the executive of the different demarcations spoke with the media present and noted their disagreement with the complaint filed against the mayor, as they considered it a move to “beat” the opposition.
Adrián Ruvalcaba, member of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) and mayor of Cuajimalpa, asked the judge to adhere to the rule of law, since, from her perspective, the precautionary measures imposed against Cuevas Nieves were “excessive”.
Meanwhile, the head of Alvaro Obregón asked to stop the “factious use” of the law: “We cannot allow the factious use of justice, we cannot allow the manufacture of crimes.”
Meanwhile, the mayor of Benito Juárez, Santiago Taboada, indicated that UNADMX remains united and will fight to stop the “political persecution” against that of members of the political organization.
This is the second joint position given by the mayors on the subject, since on March 14 they showed their “surprise and indignation” at the precautionary measures imposed by the Attorney General of Justice of Mexico City (FGJCDMX).
In a press release, the organization opposed to the government of the country's capital indicated that these legal actions were issued “in an absurd and unjustified manner” by Judge Elma Maruri Carballo.
