What happened to the alleged kidnapping of a 5-year-old boy at TransMilenio

Information about the minor's disappearance was given through social networks

Insecurity in Bogotá has been one of the main concerns of the current city hall headed by Claudia López, since the increase in the number of robberies and homicides has led to a dizzying negative perception of the capital. One of the most popular sources of complaint has been the social networks where its users spread and, in many cases, there is a positive effect.

A case that apparently demonstrated the effectiveness of the networks in denouncing, in this case a disappearance, became a trend on March 16, because it was shared by actress Luces Velásquez, who was part of the cast of 'Coffee, with the smell of a woman'. Although Velásquez was unrelated to the case, he decided to tell the situation of a 5-year-old child who was kidnapped while some subjects robbed his mother at TransMilenio.

“I don't know the child, but I wonder what the mother is feeling, there is the phone if they see it and for them to share,” was the message that the artist wrote along with the child's image and relevant data about age, time of his disappearance and the station where the incident occurred.

Hours later, according to RCN Radio, it was reported on the networks that two women had been captured for the alleged crime on the Usme portal, after security cameras gave clues and pointed out that they were responsible for taking the child.

But despite the fact that the case seemed to be of great relevance, the Bogotá Metropolitan Police had not spoken. When seeking an answer from the authorities, the station was greeted with a great surprise. An official complaint about the case of children under five years of age had been filed at any station or CAI; and when they learned that this was being publicized on social networks, the agents verified that the minor was not missing and was sharing it with his grandmother. In addition, the false information was shared by a family member, but it was not possible to determine what reasons the person has for sharing such false news could not be determined.

It should be remembered that citizens are constantly alert because they do not feel safe in the capital. The most recent Bogotá Chamber of Commerce Survey on Perception and Victimization (EPV), which reveals the 2021 data, found: an increase of 5 percentage points in citizens who are victims of crimes, from 15% in 2019 to 20% in 2021. There was an increase in the rating between poor and very poor in the number of calls to 123, which went from 36% in 2019 to 43% in 2021. The police service rating also decreased from 32% in 2019 to 30% in 2021 as excellent and good.

In addition, Bogotá has experienced the highest perception of insecurity in recent years, standing at 88%. In 2019, 44% of citizens considered their neighborhood safe, in 2021 it decreased and stood at 30%.
