The tragedy in Pataz was recorded on video. The first images that circulated on social networks correspond to the moment when you leave the hill. People on the hill opposite tried to alert those in the affected area to retreat; however, the landslide was very fast, buried houses and some people were unable to escape.

In another video you can see the desperation of a group of people who used skipping ropes to break walls and make holes to rescue those who were trapped in the middle of the fall of earth and stone.

FATHER AND DAUGHTER FOUND DEAD

The bodies of a man and a one-month-old baby, two of the eight missing were found dead on Monday, rescuers confirmed that they found the sad scene in the middle of the removal of debris.

“We have been able to recover the body of an adult, who is a boy, and a one-month-old girl,” the spokesman for the rescue police force, José Rivas, told the press.

“Most likely, he tried to protect the girl, and the collapse has buried them both,” he added.

FAMILY TESTIMONIES

Although rescue efforts continue, there is anguish among the residents of the area. Some of them gave their heartbreaking testimony. One of them was Marina Paz, who said she was with her two daughters and five grandchildren, when she left her home because neighbors warned about the natural disaster. “I was in my bed when I hear that they say please come out, but it didn't sound so clear. I didn't know what to do, I went out like this, barefoot with my polo shirt and my diver, calamine sounded horrible. I thought 'we were, now, God, '” he said.

LANDSLIDES CONTINUE

In another report from the area, it can be seen that there are still small landslides and rocks. In addition, the most affected part is difficult for rescuers to access since another collapse could occur when trying to remove the earth to search for other possible victims.

This Wednesday afternoon it became known that one person died and two others were injured, after the combi in which they were traveling fell into an abyss after being dragged by a new landslide recorded in the center of La Soledad, 30 minutes from Retamas, where several houses were buried by an avalanche.

The victim is a woman who suffered a very strong blow to the skull after the impact of the vehicle.
