Uruguayan goalkeeper Gastón Olveira saved 2 penalties against Fluminense in the defining round (4-1) and qualified Paraguay's Olimpia to the Copa Libertadores group series in a dramatic match played on Wednesday at Defensores del Chaco stadium.

Olimpia, three-time Libertadores champion, defeated “Flu” dramatically in normal time 2-0, the last goal scored after 89 minutes of play.

In the first leg, the Cariocas won 3-1, a result that forced them to settle the lawsuit from the point of sentencing.

The first two shots, by William and Felipe Melo, were covered by the Montevideo goalkeeper Olveira. The third, André did not serve Fluzao against the effectiveness of the Paraguayans who scored through Hugo Quintana, Nestor Camacho, Richard Ortiz and Derlis González to complete 4-1.

In regular time, their strikers Jorge Recalde (37) and Guillermo Paiva (89) scored for Olimpia.

The first was an assist from attacker Fernando Cardozo who made a cross from the middle that was connected from right to left by Uruguayan Alejandro Silva head, for a definition also of Jorge Recalde's head.

The second conquest, amid the drama of the imminent end of regular time, came after a right-hand raid by Derlis González who cleared the way to make a cross that striker Néstor Camacho slapped and found Guillermo Paiva in the middle of the box who touched the ball to beat goalkeeper Fabio.

The second conquest blew up the stadium, almost filled with the presence of some 38,000 spectators, some 1,500 of them Brazilians.

- Felipe Melo had warned -

The “cacique” of the Brazilians, the steering wheel Felipe Melo had warned that the mission in the capital of Paraquaya would not be easy for the team led by Abel Braga, an experienced in the decisive instances of the Cup (he won Inter Porto Alegre champion in the Libertadores and Interclubs).

The Paraguayans, with 7 finals in the Libertadores, sought from the beginning the victory they needed to get to penalties against a faded Brazilian team that, except for a few sparks, did not convince themselves to win the classification by merit.

The Braga team had a great opportunity to score in the 75th minute, wasted by the refreshment man Teixeira due to a providential intervention by Uruguayan goalkeeper Olveira when the Brazilian had the whole arc at his mercy.

The occasion originated in a mistake by defender Antolín Alcaraz who lost the ball in the middle area.

With 10 to go to the end of the match, defender Nino fouled Olympian attacker Néstor Camacho who was entering the area in danger. The referee expelled the player after 80 minutes and took a free kick that had no consequence.

- All the meat on the grill -

With one more man, Paraguayan coach Julio César Cáceres put all the meat on the grill after 83 minutes ordering three changes to search for the missing goal.

So much was the pitcher at the source that in the end the goal of the “Flu” broke with the agonizing goal of Guillermo Paiva after 89 minutes of play.

The Cariocas were visibly affected in the penalty shootout and the shots of their two main penalties were spectacularly contained by Olveira, the hero of the day.

The performers of the “King of Copas” were 100 x 100 strong and no longer needed to take the last shot from the point of judgment, to unbridled the qualification with their audience that filled the football coliseum.
