Did you know what... All people currently living in the United States have to change their watch handles every second Sunday in March as part of the switch to daylight saving time, also known as the 'Daylight Saving Time (DST) '. This activity is repeated on the first Sunday of November.
WHY IS THE SCHEDULE CHANGED EVERY YEAR?
Although it may seem strange that this change is made, these fall and spring schedule changes are part of a tradition that Benjamin Franklin, known as 'The Founding Father of the US', started in order to “save energy.”
The action of advancing the hour means that the days will start earlier, which can be used to use daylight to mobilize and not consume electricity, which is favorably reflected in the month's receipt.
As a precedent, in 1916, Germany set summer time to save fuel in the midst of World War I. It was only a matter of time for other countries in Europe to join this plan. Two years later, the United States joined.
WILL THE TIME CHANGE IN THE UNITED STATES NO LONGER BE MADE?
According to official information, the United States Senate approved a bill to maintain daylight saving time, unchanged, from the year 2023. Here are some useful information that Pictoline shares to better understand the subject:
- “Why the change? Most Americans prefer that schedule, and while its usefulness in saving electricity is in doubt, experts believe that keeping one alone can prevent sleep disturbances and other problems that arise when changing it.”
- “If approved by the House of Representatives, the United States would join several countries in the world that stopped making this time change, such as Brazil and Argentina.”
Although this plan will have several benefits for citizens, countries such as Spain and Mexico will still maintain the modification of the watch.
THEY DIDN'T WANT CHANGES
With the end of World War I, President Woodrow Wilson tried to maintain daylight saving time, but at that time, farmers, who maintained the country's economy, opposed his proposal. But why? Making these changes in his life meant losing an hour of light in the morning, which would affect his working days.
Already by February 9, 1942, President Roosevelt restored daylight saving time with World War II. With the changes of governments and authorities, each independent state made the decision to set its own dates for the change in daylight saving time.
TIME TO MAKE IT OFFICIAL
- In 1966, the Uniform Time Act, known by its acronym UTA, was promulgated, which established that this amendment would take place on the first Sunday of April and end on the last Sunday of October.
- For 2007, the Energy Policy Act of 2005 was put into effect, signed by former President George Bush. The latter provided for the change to be the second Sunday in March and the first Sunday in November.
TIME CHANGES IN THE UNITED STATES AND PERU
If you have family, friends or partner living in the United States or are about to travel to that country, you should know how long your schedule differs from ours. Of course, everything will depend on your location, whether you are in the east or west.
How many hours does Peru take to the United States? Currently, Peru and the United States have the same time because of daylight saving time that is changed in the country governed by Joe Biden.
Usually, the difference is made for at least one hour. An example of this is the time in Washington D.C. and Lima, which usually have the variation of 120 minutes.
