There will be no “fare” on public transport in NL... but citizens will be left one day a week without water

The northern state is in the midst of a severe service crisis. With a La Boca Dam about to become deserted, the Samuel García government made it official that they will run out of the resource weekly one day... although many residents complain that they have already been suffering from cuts

Nuevo León, a state located in northeastern Mexico, is at a peak. While its former governor, Jaime Rodríguez Calderón, the “Bronco”, has been imprisoned since Wednesday, and linked to the process, the state is experiencing one of its worst environmental crises due to water scarcity. In addition to that, after the controversial announcement of the arrest of the former state president, it became quite disguised that the State Congress was considering increasing the price of the metro by almost 4 times and the price of public transport buses by double. The latter was denied this Thursday by Governor Samuel García. But what is true is that the Neolonians will run out of water one day a week starting on March 22.

On the same day that the former state president was arrested, the Technical Committee of the Fares Commission of the Mobility Institute presented its proposal on increasing the price to public transport users. But it was not a regular climb but, for example, in the case of the metro it was more than triple, since they proposed to change its price from 4.5 pesos to 15 pesos per ticket. For short-range buses, the increase was to be from 12 to 15 pesos and in those that cross the entire city from 12 to 18 pesos per ticket.

There is no such Tarifazo, don't fall into lies or misinformation,” Samuel García announced through his instagram account after all the controversy arising from a proposal that did take place in public bodies. But the governor denied the increase, stressing that there will be new and better units to serve.

While for several weeks now, Nuevo León has seen the water crisis intensify, which is becoming increasingly noticeable to citizens. The La Boca Dam, one of the flagship sites in the state, is practically dry. Then Agua y Drainagón del Estado issued a statement — not even through a press conference — in which he announced that from next March 22 the inhabitants of the state will be left without water in their homes, or as the authorities said, “will have the service restricted”. And it is that date has not yet been reached and many citizens have already complained of suffering from service outages without even being warned.

On February 3, the government of Nuevo León activated a drought emergency after identifying that for several years they have been facing a serious problem of water supply due to the absence of rainfall in the region.

Through the official State Gazette, they warned that this causes a great shortage of natural sources of water supply, causing a hydrometeorological crisis that they seek to face.

If this trend continues, they warned, drinking water sources will not be able to withstand the spring and summer months of 2022, so through the National Water Commission's program of Preventive Measures and Drought Mitigation, the emergency was triggered in the state.

Meanwhile, in recent days Governor Samule Garcia has not spoken out on this specific issue. Although he has insisted heavily on the coup against corruption that his government gave when he arrested the Bronco.

The former governor of Nuevo León, Jaime Rodríguez Calderón, the “Bronco”, was linked to the trial accused of the crime of using illicit resources in the presidential campaign that he starred in 2018. He has been locked up since Wednesday in the Penal Number 2 of the municipality of Apodaca. His lawyers ruled out requesting an amparo against the measure, detailing that they will rather prepare a solid strategy, considering that the facts that accuse him do not warrant that he is in pretrial detention. Although he was granted an amparo to prevent him from being tortured or held incommunicado.

“The supervising judge decided to link the former governor to temporarily order his preventive detention,” Víctor Oléa, one of Rodríguez Calderón's lawyers, told the media this Thursday, adding that the judge later declared himself incompetent to pursue the case, which is why he will send the entire file to the Power Judicial of the Federation (PJF).

The Bronco was linked to trial by a supervising judge, accused of the crime of using resources of unlawful origin in the presidential campaign that he starred in 2018.
