She is one of the most powerful women in the entertainment industry: Shonda Rhimes, a registered trademark in the world of series. The production company has to its credit the super popular Grey's Anatomy, Pivate Practice, Scandal, How to get away with a murder and the most recent Bridgerton and Inventing Anna, to name just a few. With these two exclusive Netflix backgrounds, the platform has just confirmed its new fiction The Residence.
Two years ago, Shonda signed a contract with Netflix to capture her new fictions on that platform. After the success of the period drama Bridgerton (days after its second season) it started with Inventing Anna and now advances with The Residence, which addresses a mystery in the style of “Hercules Poirot” as reported from the platform. The story will feature an eccentric detective and many suspects around the crime. But the most important fact is the place where the fact happens that it is nothing more and nothing less than the most famous mansion in the world: The White House.
The series is scripted by Paul William Davies who will also serve as executive producer of the fiction accompanying Betsy Beers, and will be based on Kate Anderson Brower's book “The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House”. The series is described as “crazy madness set upstairs, downstairs and backfloors of the White House, among the eclectic staff of the most famous mansion in the world.”
The story will follow the legend with which the title of this story is accompanied: “132 rooms. 157 suspects. A dead body, in a space of 5100 square meters. A wildly eccentric detective. A disastrous state dinner. The wildly eccentric detective also seems to be heavily influenced by Poirot.”
It has not yet been reported who will be part of the cast of this series but at least we know that they will be eight episodes of approximately an hour long. The series is in the development stage and is being finalized what would be the final script. Therefore, it is likely that the premiere will take place only in 2023.
Shonda hopes to achieve the success that Bridgerton had, which was one of the most successful series on the platform, which we will soon have news when the second season is released. Meanwhile, Rhimes already has in mind the premiere of several spin offs and new seasons of the recently mentioned one since it takes Julia Quinn's books as a starting point. It still has a lot of fabric to cut.
