Damián Zepeda Vidales, senator of the National Action Party, used his time in the rostrum this Thursday, March 17 to warn the National Regeneration Movement (Morena) that his party will not vote in favor of the possible impeachment trial against Lorenzo Córdova and Ciro Murayama, counselors of the National Electoral Institute (INE), in the Chamber of Deputies.

During his speech in the Senate of the Republic, the former leader of the national panism stated that “on his corpse”, referring to the entire political institute, it will be how Morena will have some opportunity to destroy the electoral body, since he pointed out that they will not lend themselves to the game of “destroying” the institution that guarantees democracy in the country.

He also pointed out that the installation of the Subcommittee on Prior Examination in the Lower House, an instance where it will be decided whether these characters will be brought to trial, is a “sample of authoritarian government” that, from his perspective, represents President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO).

Over our corpse they are going to end the @INEMexico! That's how clear I tell you: you will never count on our votes to destroy the electoral referee and it will NOT happen. The impeachment against the INE is an example of the authoritarian government of @lopezobrador_ and Morena. #YoDefiendoAlINE”, was the text he shared with the video of his speech from the Paseo de la Reforma venue.

Zepeda also pointed out that both Córdova Vianello and Murayama Rendón have only defended the INE's autonomy and independence, especially during the process of the Mandate Revocation Consultation that will take place on April 10.

And it is that on the afternoon of last Wednesday, March 16, it was announced that the Subcommittee on Prior Examination of the Chamber of Deputies will analyze the request for impeachment against the electoral councillors Lorenzo Córdova and Cyrus Murayama.

According to the information available, the legislative process began at the request of the parliamentary group of National Regeneration, in response to the restrictions imposed by the electoral body in the framework of the ban for the consultation to be submitted by the Mexican president.

It should be noted that Morena was not the only party that called for the start of the impeachment trial against Córdova Vianello, since the controversial deputy of the Labour Party (PT), Gerardo Fernández Noroña, also submitted a request for the Chamber of Deputies to initiate a trial; however, he stopped after the end of the 64th Legislature.

Although the installation of the table began at 16:00 hours (Central Mexico time) and it is not yet defined whether the process will take place or not, some members of the Mexican political class hope that among the cases being discussed will also be that of the head of the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR), Alejandro Gertz Manero, who was requested by brothers Ana Paola, Alonso and Gonzalo Castillo Cuevas, who accused the prosecutor of allegedly setting up “elements” against their mother, Alejandra Cuevas.

Meanwhile, the members of the subcommittee that will decide the future of the INE directors belong to the Committee on Governance and Justice, which are chaired by the member of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), Alejandro Alito Moreno Cárdenas, and the National Action Party (PAN), Felipe Fernando Maclas Olvera, respectively.

In addition, it will be composed of Ramiro Robledo Ruiz (Morena), Pablo Almicar Sandoval (Morena), Julio César Moreno Rivera (Morena), Jorge Arturo Espadas Galvan (PAN), Gerardo Fernández Noroña (PT), Javier Huacus Esquivel (PRD), Crown Nakamura (PRI), Hamlet Garcia Almaguer (Morena), Leonel Godoy Rangel (Brunette), Lizbeth Mata Lozano ( PAN), Rubén Moreira Valdez (PRI) and Julieta Mejia Ibanez (MC).
