On Wednesday, the Cuban dictatorship Supreme Court accused 127 people of “violently overthrowing the constitutional order” due to anti-government protests on July 11 against the island, and sentenced them to prison between 4 and 30 years.
“On July 11, 2021, the Court notified a sentence that proved and substantiated that the defendant attempted to violently destroy the constitutional order in accordance with the instructions provided by the people of Cuba and abroad in Esquina de Toyo, the municipality of Diez de Octubre.” In a press release on the trial held between December 14 and February 3, the Supreme Court of the Cuban dictatorship was notified.
According to the statement, the proceedings were accused of committing and causing serious riots and vandalism against 129 citizens “to destabilize public order, collective security and civil tranquility.”
Thus, the court assured that “these cases were deliberately organized as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, especially in the province of Havana, in the midst of the complex situation that the country is experiencing.”
Those sentenced were sentenced to imprisonment between 4 and 30 years, depending on the “degree of participation”, as reported in the text of the regime, without mentioning the age of the court.
In addition, the dictatorship ordered “civil liability of the defendant, the obligation to compensate the injured person as a result of the committed act and recover the damage caused to the organization.”
In response to a trial against protesters, the US Embassy said that “the Cuban regime today sent a message stating that it protects human rights and sentenced dozens of 11J protesters between 30 and 4 years in prison for expressing freedom of expression.” Profile official Twitter.
