I could miss the school year. After starting the restart of face-to-face classes in our country, millions of schoolchildren have returned to their classrooms, after two years of distance education due to the arrival of COVID-19.
However, there are still many students who have not been able to access a vacancy, such as a 6-year-old girl in the city of Tacna, who, according to her mother, in the Francisco Antonio de Zela public school have not been able to receive it.
Kimberly Poma Coarite, mother of the minor, explained to the newspaper Correo, that through the Digital Enrollment she registered her daughter but due to technical problems with the account and password she was unable to complete the procedures.
He also said that he contacted Tacna's Local Educational Management Unit (Ugel) and the Ministry of Education, but after time he was only offered one place at the Jorge Martorell Flores Educational Institution.
Despite the fact that the girl obtained this vacancy in another educational institution, the mother refuses, since she assures that her two eldest daughters are studying at FAZ school, so she demands that the authorities provide her with a vacancy for the younger one.
“I have three older daughters who study in this school, so it is also up to my youngest daughter, since those who have siblings are a priority, I can't pick up three daughters here and then go to Jorge Martorell, I wouldn't have enough time,” argued the attorney for the aforementioned newspaper.
For his part, the director of the school, Mauricio Vidal Flores, informed the mother of the family that a vacancy has been generated due to the transfer of a student, but that like her there are two other children who are looking for a place and who also have daughters on the campus, so a draw would be made.
However, the three parents agreed that in any case, two girls, who have a greater right than many of the 2,200 female students who entered this year, would be deprived of admission.
While this is happening, the minor will continue to study from a bench outside the school as a way of protest against the denial of a vacancy.
4 MILLION STUDENTS RETURNED TO FACE-TO-FACE CLASSES
This Monday, March 14, more than 4 million basic education students from public schools will start face-to-face or blended classes in 18 regions of the country, including Lima. Let's remember that this becomes a reality, after classes are interrupted for two years after the arrival of COVID-19.
The Minister of Education, Rosendo Serna, specified that in total there are 4 million 289,233 students from public schools, representing 63 per cent of the total, which is 6 million 797,295, who will return to their classes on a regular basis.
“Schools have handwashing facilities and hygiene equipment and masks have been purchased in a timely manner to ensure the health of students and teachers and have a safe return,” Serna said.
Serna, who in recent weeks visited various regions and visited public schools to monitor preparations for the start of the 2022 school year, said that despite the infrastructure problems faced by some educational institutions, no child will be left without school.
