Ficci, as is well known, has become every year a window for many Colombian productions to make themselves known. All regions of the country converge on a single stage and each one of them shows the best of its cinema, demonstrating that there are formats worth seeing apart from commercial cinema.

Medellín is no exception and in this 61st edition, the Cartagena International Film Festival joins the Miradas Medellín Festival, and thanks to this alliance, six films from the capital of Antioquia will be screened at the event in order to be seen by thousands of spectators and that, by the way, both filmmakers and critics will be screened says that local cinema is done well in the city.

It is well known that Antioquian cinema has among its major references Víctor Gaviria, who, through films such as 'Rodrigo D: No Futuro', 'Sums and Subtracts' and 'The Rose Salesman', reflected various problems faced not only by the population of this area of the country, but also in many other parts of Colombia: violence, segregation and drug use that are not seen in national commercial cinema were the central elements of much of his work.

Now, it is expected that with the six works to be exhibited, the industry of the capital of Antioquia will evolve and give way to new talents, as did the documentary 'The silence of the seeds', which arrived on behalf of La Guajira.

The Audiovisual Primavera Room will be the meeting point for these films, as well as various discussion workshops between audiovisual experts, and according to Álvaro Narváez Díaz, Secretary of Citizen Culture of Medellín, the evolution of local productions is worthy of being recognized on a stage such as Ficci.

“Being part of this festival is a first step in the cultural projection that is sought out and in the educational and cultural transformation,” Narváez said, adding that film festivals in South America are an indispensable platform for the exhibition of new talents and formats, and the one held in the walled city is not the exception, since samples from both Colombia and Latin America take the opportunity to show themselves there.

Two short films will say goodbye, in style, to the Festival that managed to bring together the best of regional cinema, as well as the presence of various technological supports to have a better reach and thus reach more people who for some reason could not be present in the walled city.

The first is' Boa ', by director Nicolás Parra Garzón. In 13 minutes, the animated short will show the aftermath of the Colombian conflict through a reptile “that devastates all possibilities of life”, starting with the Amazon. The second, on the other hand, is' Invisibles', by Esteban García Garzón. The story also takes internal conflict as a determining element, and in this format, the character 'Azen' has the ability to see, precisely, the invisible ones, managing to visualize the dead and disappeared left by the war in his region.
