At least one person was killed and three injured after several fragments of a Russian missile shot down by Ukrainian forces fell on an apartment block in the Darnitsky district of Kiev.
The State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES) reported on its Telegram account that it became aware of the burning and destruction of a residential house in that district and went to the area.
“Members of the nearest fire and rescue units immediately arrived at the scene,” the report says.
Rescuers found that the fragments of the downed Russian missile led to the destruction of the structures of the 16th floor building and a fire broke out in one of the apartments, they added
“At 05.49 local time, the fire that affected about 20 square meters was extinguished. People were evacuated from the 11th floor and above. Rescue operations are being carried out to remove the rubble and search for more people,” the SES said.
“According to preliminary data, 30 people were evacuated, including three injured. One person was killed,” the report states.
Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine began on February 24, the Russian Army has besieged the Ukrainian capital and has already caused several deaths with missile attacks in some of its neighborhoods on the outskirts.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymir Zelensky, assured in an interview with the US network NBC that Russia has already crossed “all the red lines” by bombing civilians and warned that World War III could have started.
“If they are intentionally launching these missiles at kindergartens, schools or universities that is a crossing of every line,” Zelensky stressed. “What else should we expect? Let the Russians kill 200, 300 or 400 children?” , he added.
In this regard, he pointed out that a large-scale war could have started in a movement on the part of Russia that “puts all civilization at stake”: “No one knows if it has already begun (World War III). No one would be able to predict when the war would begin on a large scale,” he said.
Zelensky further emphasized that the Ukrainian people “are invincible”. “Russian forces can occupy the land, but they cannot take Ukraine's dignity and love for their country,” the president declared.
“Even those settlements that were burned to ashes by Russian artillery, even those settlements were left unconquered by the Russians,” he added.
The president of Ukraine assured late Wednesday that negotiations with Russia “are ongoing” and reiterated security guarantees for Ukraine, as well as regretting that he could not provide more corridors for civilians who are in combat zones.
