Five months after the death of Octavio Ocaña, the endearing “Benito Rivers” in the series Vecinos, the Judiciary of the State of Mexico (PJEM) reported on Thursday that two public officials of that entity were removed from office for their probable responsibility for the crime against “respect for the dead and violations of the laws of burial and exhumation”, also known as the “Ingrid Act”.

They are the paramedic Marcelina “N” and an investigative policeman Raúl “N” town hall, both from the municipality of Cuautitlán Izcalli. A judge based in the municipality of Tlalnepantla decided to remove them from office during the investigation and also determined a period of 144 hours (21 March) for it to be determined whether or not they are linked to trial.

Both Marcelina and Rául would have used their mobile phones to photograph the corpse of the 22-year-old actor lying inside his van, which quickly went viral on social networks, so they are now facing judicial proceedings against him, as well as economic sanctions.

“In addition to the separation from office, Marcelina “N” was required to present an economic guarantee of 5,000 pesos, while Raúl “N” an economic guarantee of 8,000 pesos, as they continue their trial in freedom,” the autonomous body explained.

What is known about the case

On October 29, 2021, Octavio Ocaña died in various circumstances after a chase by municipal police who reportedly stopped him for allegedly running a red light.

The van driving the Ocaña was impacted, although the actor's body had a gun impact on the head that he allegedly caused himself when he tried to escape from the authorities.

The Mexican State Prosecutor's Office (FJEM) concluded in its investigation that in the case of Octavio Ocaña there is no crime to be prosecuted, so it released the police officers of Cuautitlán Izcalli, who were arrested along with the people accompanying the actor from “Vecinos” in the van.

According to the Mexican State Prosecutor's Office, after expert reports and statements by witnesses and police officers, the authority concluded that Ocaña died after accidentally shooting himself in the head, after crashing the van he was riding in while fleeing a patrol car.
