Whereas government elections were held on June 5, 2022 in the six states of the Republic, the National Recovery Movement (Morena) Party had no candidates in Tamaulipas due to differences among the militants over the selection of flag-bearers.

On March 16, the Electoral Tribunal of the Federal Judiciary (TEPJF) ordered the Tamaulipas State Electoral Tribunal (TRIELTAM) to decide on the pre-selection of candidate Markey Ace A resolution was issued on the complaint filed by Maki Esther Ortiz Domíngue z. Morena ran for governor and opposed the nomination of Americo Villarreal Anaya as the party's candidate.

TEPJF said the plenary of the High Court overturned the decision handed down by the state court by unanimous vote that confirmed the resolution issued by the Morena Party National Commission for Honesty and Justice (CNHJ) on the appointment of Villarreal Anaya as a candidate for the entity's government.

Moronist Ortiz Domínguez challenged the district court's ruling on the grounds that she had not heard all the arguments against the ruling on the registration of a single candidate with the governor.

Thus, on the proposal of Judge Felipe de la Mata Pizaña, the High Chamber of the Electoral Tribunal ruled that the alleged illegality of the decision to register a single candidate for the 2021-2022 local electoral process for the Tamaulipas state government was not analyzed.

In this regard, once it was proved that the District Court had not complied with the principle of integrity, the plenary session of the High Court overturned the local judgement so that the competent authorities could issue a new decision within three days analysing the arguments relating to the decision concerning the registration of a single candidate.

It should be noted that shortly after the publication of the decision of the Electoral Tribunal, Ernesto Palacios Cordero, Morena's representative in Tamaulipas, assured that the decision of the electoral body would not revoke or affect Américo Villarreal's candidacy for the state government.

During a press conference, Palacios Cordero stressed that there were voices that “wanted to create chaos” but that Villarreal's candidacy was “not only firm, but it was going well”.

“In the league we have done a good job, we have no doubt that the other side will be nervous, we are in the lead and we have no doubt that this is another lie that distorts the social reality of Tamaulipas. Morenista said our election process is transparent, the law is strictly followed, the legal process takes time, and from November onwards, we believe that what we have always stood for will be valid within the law.”

Instead, Govia said, the resolution ordered the Tamaulipas State Electoral Court to re-examine Mackie Ortiz's challenge and go thorough in the process.
