Miss Peru: remember the most controversial and embarrassing moments of the beauty contest

The beauty contest is once again in the midst of the controversy after having chosen four famous winners in the Miss Peru La Pre.

In recent days, the Miss Peru La Pre beauty pageant has been harshly questioned by social media users, as well as former contestants who denounced favoritism when it became known that Kyara Villanella, Gaela Barraza and Alondra Huárac had been the winners.

Due to this new controversy, here we will remind you all the times that this contest was in the eye of the storm for its participants. Some of the former beauty queens today are known in the local environment, while others have disappeared altogether.

MELISSA PAREDES GAVE UP HER MISS PERU CROWN

In 2012 Melissa Paredes won one of the most important beauty pageants nationwide. However, she had to give up her crown after it became known that in the past she did a topless photo shoot, something not allowed by the organization.

I really respect those people who criticize me so harshly. I'm not really a vedette, no dancer, I have nothing against those jobs. I am Melissa Paredes, a woman who gets ahead, who has always worked for herself and her family, so I inform all of Peru that Melissa Paredes is giving up her crown today,” she said.

ROSA ELVIRA CARTAGENA HID CROWN AND WAS DISMISSED

Rosa Elvira Cartagena became the first Afro-Peruvian to win Miss Peru, but this title would not last long, since a few months later she was dismissed when it was discovered that she had lied when she said that her crown had gone astray.

When the organization asked her to hand over the crown that was valued at $100,000, she said that she had lost it along with various personal items such as tailors, shoes, jewelry, among other things, in a suitcase. Finally, the police discovered that everything had been a lie and that they had never misplaced the object.

ANYELLA GRADOS LOSES CORONA TO VIRAL VIDEO WHILE INTOXICATED

Anyella Grados managed to be crowned Miss Peru in 2019, but her reign lasted only a couple of months because one of her companions recorded her in total drunkenness while they were celebrating a carnival.

The video was spread on social media and quickly went viral. This caused Jessica Newton to get upset, invoking a press conference to announce that Grados had lost the crown for violating the rules.

Anyella Grados was expelled from Miss Peru.

MICHELLE SOIFER RETIRED FROM MISS PERU FOR LYING ABOUT HER MARITAL STATUS

In 2010, Michelle Soifer ran for Miss Peru as the Callao presenter. She was not so lucky because she was expelled from the pageant for lying about her marital status, as she indicated that she was single when she was actually married.

According to the statutes of the beauty contest, the participants cannot be married. Maritza Mendoza, the president of the organization at that time, also spoke on the matter.

All the candidates are very sad about this issue. She's a very disciplined child. I talked to her mom and her, we're actually taken aback, but I don't know what decision Michelle made. There are things they don't know like it comes from a humble condition, of necessity,” he said.

Michelle Soifer had to be removed from Miss Peru by lying about her marital status.

STEVE HARVEY AT MISS UNIVERSE 2015

Steve Harvey became known worldwide for having made a mistake at the Miss Universe 2015 ceremony, when he mistook the Miss Universe Philippines winner for the second runner-up Miss Universe Colombia.

After winning Miss Universe Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez, the presenter returned to the stage to apologize to the audience and to the participant, and immediately named Miss Universe Philippines, Pia Wurtzbach, as the winner, who was not out of her amazement.
