Real Sociedad's Spanish international winger Mikel Oyarzabal broke the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in training this Thursday, the Basque club announced in a statement and will miss the rest of the season.
The 24-year-old captain of La Real “will be operated on in the coming weeks,” the San Sebastian team said in a statement.
The Real player suffered “a twist in his left knee in training this morning,” Real Sociedad explained, adding that medical tests showed “a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament”.
This is a serious injury that usually requires about six months of recovery.
Oyarzabal, 21 times international with La Roja, will not be able to be part of the list that will be announced on Friday by his coach Luis Enrique Martínez for the friendlies in preparation for the 2022 World Cup against Albania on March 26 in Barcelona, and March 29 in A Coruña against Iceland.
This season, the Real Sociedad reference has 15 goals and 4 assists in 33 official matches.
