Starting at 14:47 this Thursday, the central event will be held in memory and demand for justice for the 30th anniversary of the attack on the Israeli embassy. The start time is not a minor detail, since it is the exact moment when the terrorist attack took place on March 17, 1992 and neither is the meeting point, because it is the place where the previous headquarters was located, at the junction of Arroyo and Suipacha, in the City of Buenos Aires.
As mentioned, the central event to remember and honor the victims of the attack has the participation of the Minister of Justice of the Nation, Martín Soria, and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice of Israel, Gideon Sa'ar. Who will not be part of the official activity is the President of the Nation, Alberto Fernández, who anticipated that he would not attend.
“The traces of terrorism are still upon us”, is the official motto of the event in the framework of a new anniversary. “Thirty years ago, under the leadership of Iran, Hezbollah carried out the attack on the Israeli embassy in Argentina where 29 people were killed,” the Israeli embassy in Argentina said via its official Twitter account.
On the day of that attack, the entire building collapsed like a sandcastle undermined by the sea. It was almost 14.50 on Tuesday, December 17, 1992, 30 years ago: the Israeli embassy and consulate in Arroyo 910 and 916 no longer existed.
The tremendous outbreak was followed by the deep silence that follows the catastrophes, until it was broken by the cries of the wounded, the requests for help and the running of those who were trying to help. The explosion, which was not yet known exactly what had happened, had also affected the Josefa Capdevila de Gutiérrez school, a garden incorporated into the Mater Admirabilis parish and school, from which one hundred ninety-two children aged three to five were about to go to the street, guided by twenty-two adults, and the nursing home San Francisco Home, where at least one person died.
