If it is necessary to be absent from work due to medical problems, such as an accident, illness or childbirth, it is necessary to apply for disability to the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS). When making this request, the agency issues a disability certificate with the aim of justifying the worker's absence of activity according to the date necessary for recovery.
It should be remembered that subsidy payments are valid only in the following cases and are valid according to the following proportions:
- General illness: 100% of the salary recorded in the IMSS at the beginning of disability
- Occupational risk: 60%
- Delivery: 100% at the beginning of the 34th week of pregnancy and the total number of days included in the document
To apply for disability, workers must meet the following requirements and present them in their original form in the IMSS window:
1.Official identification card. This can be a voting credential, a valid passport, a professional ID card, or a military service card.
2.A document containing the worker's Social Security Number (NSS). It can be an Afore, a National Health Card, or an employer.
3. Bank statement containing the policyholder's 18-digit interbank CLABE. This document is only accepted if the delivery period is not more than 3 months and the name of the insured is included.
4. Request for payment registration and correction of bank account (PDF)
5.IMSS suggests scanning the image with a scanner from its website. If you attach a photo, make sure that it can be read with good resolution, focused (not moving), without flash, only in abundant natural light.
To carry out the procedure, the interested party must enter this link and enter the file of the RFC and e.firma or FILE with homoclave. This file must be valid before the Tax Administration Service (Sat).
If you decide to register for this service via email provided by the delegation, you must attach the previously stated documents to the next request.
Disability payments are made 3 business days after the documents are issued at the bank window that has authorized the payment of subsidies from the relevant institution, presenting the original and copy of the unique disability certificate and a valid official ID card.
If the company in which you work has concluded a “payment agreement” with IMSS, you can also receive payments directly on the salary receipt. The originals of the “copy pattern” of disability must be delivered to the human resources area of the workplace.
If you have been unemployed or decide to start collecting income independently, the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) offers options for those who are self-employed, work in the informal sector, or who have recently stopped working for a company or employer.
