Emilio Azcarraga Jean is one of the richest men in Mexico and currently holds a fortune valued at $770 million. Although it has managed to remain in the ranking of Mexican Millonaires, headed by Carlos Slim Helú, it currently occupies the last positions of the annual ranking after the constant losses it has had on Televisa.

According to the financial magazine, Azcárraga Jean lost one-fifth of his fortune from 2020 to 2021. The businessman dropped seven positions in the ranking of Mexico's greatest fortunes, since just two years ago his net worth was valued at USD 990 million. In this way, Azcárraga Jean was overthrown by the Jorba Servitje family, which currently ranks 25th in the annual ranking.

Following the losses recorded by the fellow owner of Club America, the businessman's fortunes showed an uptick according to Forbes's The World's Real Time Billionaires list, which traces the daily ups and downs of the richest people in the world, including Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk and Bernard Arnault.

In this regard, it was noted that Azcárraga Jean currently has a wealth of USD 1,200 million, so in the last year his fortune could have an estimated increase of USD 430 million compared to the previous year in which he had millionaire losses due to the decrease in Televisa's net sales, which were 97 thousand 631 million pesos, despite the fact that in 2019 the company had revenues of more than 100 million pesos.

The losses of businessman Emilio Azcárraga Jean began to be recorded since the first quarter of 2020. According to the agency EFE, during this period Grupo Televisa had a net loss of 8.9 billion pesos. Given this, the company explained that the decrease in the company's values was caused by the impact on the depreciation of the Mexican peso and the adjustment of book value following its participation in Univision, a US television channel that broadcasts Spanish-language content.

Since 2018, Azcárraga Jean stopped appearing in the top 10 of the richest characters in Mexico. For the same year, the businessman recorded a fortune of $1.7 billion and took thirteenth place on the list, but his fortune has plummeted year after year and currently occupies the last places on the list, leaving only the Fernández family, dedicated to the beverage and family business. Hernandez-Pons, majority owners of Grupo Herdez.

The recent strategic alliance between Televisa and Univision is expected to generate profits in the fortunes of Azcárraga Jean. According to both companies, the purpose of this alliance is to merge their media, content and production assets to create the largest global Spanish-language media company, which will be launched on March 31 in the US, Mexico and other Latin American countries under the names ViX and ViX+.

The launch of the platform will compete with rivals already positioned in the market such as Netflix and Amazon's Prime Video, comes weeks after Televisa and Univision closed the deal to merge their content and create the new firm.

The agreement, released in a statement, establishes that the US television station will pay Televisa USD 4.8 billion for the operation, contemplating disbursement in cash, shares and other commercial considerations.
