On March 17, the Constitutional Court (TC) will see the habeas corpus filed by lawyer Gregorio Parco to rescind the Supreme Court decision that annulled the pardon to Alberto Fujimori on 24 December 2017. Faced with this, Congressman Guillermo Bermejo (Free Peru) said that if there was a resolution in favor of pardon, it would prove “how rotten” this body is constitutional.

“Freeing Fujimori would be a clear indication of how rotten the Constitutional Court is. On behalf of the thousands of victims of the dictatorship and those of Peruvians who are fighting to defeat the bloodthirsty regime, I strongly oppose impunity for the dictator. Neither forgot, nor forgiveness, nor reconciliation with the murderers and thieves of the village! , he wrote in a Facebook post.

It is recalled that the pardon given to Alberto Fujimori, on Christmas 2017, was given by then-President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, granted the pardon to Fujimori Fujimori for reasons humanitarian. With this new decision, the TC could declare one of the three cases seeking the release of the former president founded.

Ernesto Blume will be the speaker. If approved, the Judiciary's ruling that annulled the pardon would be void and would release Alberto Fujimori, who is sentenced to 25 years in prison for the crimes of La Cantuta and Barrios Altos.

SIGRID BAZÁN SPEAKS AGAINST

Guillermo Bermejo is not the only member of parliament to speak out on the possible release of former president Alberto Fujimori. The congresswoman of Juntos For Peru, Sigrid Bazán, spoke out against granting humanitarian pardon to the former president, who “never asked for forgiveness or he regretted”.

“Alberto Fujimori never asked for forgiveness or repented and so far he has not paid a single amount of his civil reparation; however, tomorrow the TC could rescind the Judiciary's ruling that annulled the illegal and negotiated pardon, granted to him for political and non-humanitarian reasons,” wrote the parliamentarian on her Twitter account .

A DIVIDED CONSTITUTIONAL COURT

At the time, the judiciary argued that the presidential benefit “did not meet essential legal requirements.” This is how in October 2018, Fujimori returned to prison in the Diroes. But now, the habeas corpus presented by lawyer Gregorio Parco gives him a chance to overturn that sentence.

It is known that the positions of the judges of the TC would be divided. On the one hand, they would be against Fujimori's release: Marianella Ledesma, Eloy Espinosa-Saldaña and Manuel Miranda; while Blume, José Luis Sardón are in favor. Augusto Ferrero Costa, the current president of the Constitutional Court, could have a deciding vote, and according to what is known, he could vote in favor of the former president.

FUJIMORI HEALTH

On March 14, Alberto Fujimori was discharged from the Centenario Clinic and will continue his treatment of pulmonary fibrosis and atrial fibrillation at Barbadillo prison, according to his daughter and leader of Fuerza Popular, Keiko Fujimori.

“He will remain under strict medical observation of his two main ailments: fibrosis and atrial fibrillation. I am grateful, on behalf of my brothers, for their concern and we ask for their prayers for their speedy recovery,” said Keiko Fujimori through her social networks.

It is recalled that on March 3, EsSalud reported that Fujimori had been rushed to Hospital II Vitarte from Barbadillo prison. After he was stabilized by the shock trauma doctors, he was transferred to the Centenario clinic, where he has been carrying out his treatment, at the request of the patient and the doctor of Inpe.
