Germany's Walscheid wins the Denain cycling GP

The German Maximilian Walscheid (Cofidis) won this Thursday the 63rd edition of the Denain cycling Grand Prix (northern France), after a 200.3 km course with twelve cobblestone sectors.

He beat Belgian Dries De Bondt (Alpecin-Fenix) and Frenchman Adrien Petit (Intermarché-Wanty) in the final sprint.

About 30 km from the end was a group of escapees with three men from Ineos (the American Magnus Sheffield, the Englishman Ben Turner and the Ecuadorian Jhonatan Narváez), accompanied by the Frenchman Damien Touzé (AG2R Citroën) and the Slovenian Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma), who attended the event to test themselves in the cobbles.

This group was reached before the end and the test was decided to sprint.
