Former Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov arrested

SOFIA, Bulgaria (AP) — Former Bulgarian Prime Minister Boiko Borissov was arrested Thursday in a nationwide police operation following investigations by the European Union prosecutor's office.

In a press release, the Ministry of the Interior reported that Borissov had been detained for 24 hours. He did not elaborate on the accusations against him.

“A large-scale police operation is being carried out in relation to 120 cases opened by the European Public Prosecutor's Office from Bulgaria,” the statement said.
