Denzel Washington has been part of the Hollywood industry for decades. His voice and smile led him to perform various roles with outstanding talent, and he always knew how to move easily. He was involved in comedies, dramas, action movies, and wars.It seems that nothing could go wrong if there was Washington in the movie. Now he embarked on a new challenge to join the new adaptation of William Shakespeare's play Macbeth. With the title of Macbeth's Tragedy of Apple TV + Denzel writes and directs this novel, Joel Koen ( Joel Coen).
The central story of Macbeth captures the ambition of a Scottish lord who was influenced by three witches. They persuade him to be the King of Scotland. This version of Coen was shot in black and white.
This is the first time Joel conducts without his brother Ethan, and he usually works side by side. “Ethan didn't want to make a movie anymore. He seems happy with what he just did. Both of them have tons of unproduced scripts on the shelves, but I don't know what Joel would do without it.” Composers Carter Burwell, who has accompanied Coens for many years, said.
Washington plays Macbeth, the protagonist of this play, has been nominated for a new Oscar (he already has 10 of them in his credit), and will try to add a third ancestor to the two already winning statues. The first Oscar won the glory Best Supporting Actor (Times of Glory, 1989), and the second - Education Day (2001 Training Day) for the main role.
In this film, she joined the cast of bFrancis McDormand (who is also a filmmaker), Berty Cavell, Alex Hassell, Corey Hawkins, Harry Melling, and Brendan Gleeson.
Through communication ibwith Infobae, Denzel talked about this new nomination and advice to give to the new actor.
How important is it to appear at the Oscars again after many nominations?
-I was lucky enough to have been nominated for 10 times, and now I am nominated for the best film. I've seen everything, and I've seen all of how this show can go. It's simple. Just go and try to have a good time. That's it.
- I am an African-American who gave a speech talking about following in the footsteps of the great Sidney Poitier when he won the second Oscar, and today was nominated for the tenth time. How about being someone who sees Sydney the same way people see Sydney?
I've seen a lot of his movies lately. Especially I've been with Covid for the past 2 years, but I don't know if I look like that person. I don't think of myself that way. I'm trying to share what I know from my experience. In this film, I talked a lot with Corey (Hawkins) and Alex (Hassell), and I can see myself in them like “Young Me.” I only share what I know. My role is simply to share what I have learned and answer questions about it.
One of your great movies ibwas Glory. You won an Oscar. What if you could give advice to a young Denzel who is just starting out in the industry?
- What I want to say is what I actually did. In other words, I learn to act on stage (theater) rather than in movies. That's what I'm talking to young actors right now. It's a place where you learn how to get on stage and act. Since film is a director's means and theater is an actor's means, you can't learn from a humble view.If you look at the list of winners in recent years, almost everyone has experience in theater if they are lucky enough to be one of them.
What are you looking for in your career during this special time? In what way do you decide to play a role?
What I want now is to lose 40 pounds. When I see me in Italy, I will have a great challenge ahead of me because I am going to shoot Equalizer 3 and visit Naples, Positano and a few other places (laughs). But there is a saying that “without commitment you will never start, and without constancy it will never end.” So I am interested in maintaining my mind, body, and spirit constantly for the rest of my life.
What was it like to compose this new version of Macbeth?
- Never have I ever played Macbeth. It took me a year to meet with Joel (Coen) and get his vision. That's what I had in mind to achieve my performance. I need to meet William Shakespeare, and I need to reach his level. We all did, so I think that if we approach it with the right humility, determination, and effort, it would be completely filled. When I started reading Shakespeare in college, it was a lot fulle. Now I am much more full because I didn't feel good about what I did. It is that I can always do more or see it in a different way.I want to return to more than any other role I've ever played.
