David Faitelson lashed out at the former chief executive of Chivas, José Luis Higuera, who unsuccessfully tried to greet Amaury Vergara, president and owner of the institution, last Tuesday after the 2022 Hall of Fame Investiture ceremony.

The reason why the ESPN analyst rushed against the former CEO of Guadalajara is because he considered his approach to Jorge Vergara's heir a “provocation”, arguing that they currently have legal disputes and that there is a confrontation over his relationship with Angelica Fuentes, who was the wife of his father between 2008 and 2015.

According to Faitelson, Higuera “intends to demand money through apocryphal documents” from Grupo Omnilife, a company owned by Vergara. This is due to a credit that would have been part of when the institution was in an economically complicated situation.

According to several of his posts made on social networks, “José Luis Higuera wanted Amaury Vergara to throw a punch at him”, so he hinted at the possible purpose of Higuera to have more arguments in any type of resolution that is given, whether for public opinion or even in court.

Minutes later, he supported this accusation by his sources within the company; however, he declared that he is not aware of the alleged fraud of José Luis against Grupo Omnilife or Chivas, two companies that go hand in hand in their actions and executive organization chart.

Faitelson's words were more specific, as he mentioned that the former Chivas manager is looking for a fraction of the more than MXN 2 billion lent to Chivas and Omnilife at the time when Angelica Fuentes sued Jorge Vergara after his divorce. The ESPN journalist even pointed out her for having left the institution bankrupt.

The conflict escalated when Jorge Vergara, founder and owner of Grupo Omnilife, died in November 2019, as the alleged agreements with his trusted man, José Luis Higuera, vanished.

Vergara had appointed Higuera as CEO of Chivas in 2015, following the removal of Angelica Fuentes from the institution, and it remained until 2019, when Amaury took full control.

The one who collaborated and “made second” to David Faitelson's words was Ignacio Suárez El Fantasma, who assured that the amount of the loan that Chivas applied for amounts to 2,850 million pesos and that it even caused the mortgage of the “team, stadium, green valley and surrounding land”.

According to Suarez, this money would have been used to pay off debts to Angelica Fuentes and to restructure family businesses.

This controversy became more meaningful when the investigation by the Assistant Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime Investigation (SEIDO) was recalled in 2021, when José Luis Higuera was pointed out of an alleged fraud in his time with Chivas, since by false invoices he would have illicitly enriched by up to 50 millions of pesos.

Because among the companies that were associated with this “factoring” network involved one of Angelica Fuentes, an alleged collaboration of Higuera with Jorge Vergara's ex-wife was revealed and interpreted as treason.

David Faitelson contacted José Luis Higuera to request more information; however, he did not want to go into the topic: “He tells me that the issue will be resolved in the place where it needs to be resolved. He tells me that he has great affection and respect for Jorge Vergara and that, obviously, with Amaury he is different,” said the communicator.
