The Attorney General's Office announced this Thursday that one of those involved in the terrorist attack that took place at the General Santander Cadet School, on January 17, 2019, was convicted.

The man, identified as Ricardo Andrés Carvajal Salgar, was convicted of the crimes of aggravated terrorism, aggravated homicide, murder in the degree of aggravated attempt; manufacturing, trafficking and carrying firearms for the exclusive use of the Armed Forces, and damage to aggravated property of others.

A specialized criminal judge from Bogotá issued a sense of conviction against Carvajal Salgar, after the Attorney General's Office established that the subject paid the lease of the warehouse where the van that was used to carry out the terrorist attack at the General Santander Cadet School was held.

According to the group of prosecutors from the Bogotá Sectional and the Specialized Directorate Against Criminal Organizations, the person involved in the attack leased the space located in the Santa Librada neighborhood, in the south of Bogotá, where the van used on January 17, 2019, to commit the attack”.

According to the prosecutor, among the evidentiary material that was provided in the proceedings, there is a telephone conversation in which Ricardo Andrés Carvajal confesses to another person that he is hiding because he participated in the attack at the National Police school.

“I'm warmed up because we planted the bomb,” said the 31-year-old in conversation. It should be recalled that Carvajal was arrested by the authorities three days after the attack with explosives at the Santander General School.

It should be noted that this man involved in the terrorist attack remains deprived of liberty in La Picota prison, in Bogotá.

On January 17, 2019, the country shook after learning about the terrorist attack they perpetrated at the General Santander Cadet School, located in Bogotá.

A van loaded with explosives entered that place and was not detected by the officials responsible for the security of the place. At the time, this was quite questioned because it is a school of the National Police, where controls should be more rigorous.

Once the van was installed inside the school, the explosion occurred, in a place very close to the place where a training was taking place. The result of the terrorist attack was 22 dead and 81 people injured.

It should be recalled that the Nissan Patrol van was loaded with about 80 kilos of pentolite and the driver was identified as José Aldemar Rodríguez, a man identified by the authorities as a member of the ELN.

In the course of the process being carried out by the authorities in this case, more than ten arrests have been taken; however, some of the detainees have repeatedly assured that they are false judicial positives, arguing that the authorities carried out the arrests without further evidence in order to produce results.

Some of those captured during this process are: Andrés Felipe Oviedo, alias Jesús; Carlos Marín, alias Marín; Angie Lorena Solano, alias Maco; Miguel Castillo, alias Toño; Anyi Daniela Martínez, alias Dani; Jessica Barrientos, alias Jessica; and Carlos and Luis Sebastián Mateus, alias Carlitos and Sebas.
